The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has caused companies to operate from home. This gave rise to the popularity of video conferencing apps like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet among others that saw exponential growth in no time. To rip off the benefits of this emerging business sector, Reliance Jio has launched JioMeet, a video conferencing app will soon be available across Google Play Store, Microsoft Windows Store, and Apple App Store.
JioMeet enables video conferencing on a high-definition (HD) resolution to its users. Its free plan allows up to 5 participants while subscribing to its premium plan will exponentially increase the participants to 100 and all at HD resolutions.
Users can either sign up with their email or OTP or they can log in to any meeting following a meeting link where they will be asked to enter name and meeting ID to join as a guest. All the meetings on the app are PIN protected.
Don’t mistake it as an all-in-one video conferencing app. It does let users video chat with their friends, family, and employees. The app shares the same UI as any other Reliance Jio app you might have used. It took a few seconds to load the recipient’s feed on the screen even after connecting to them.
The app automatically adapts to the resolution based on the quality of the connection. There’s an option to text chat on a video call without going offline or turning off the camera temporarily thanks to a chat overlay option.
Next up, to prevent situations like someone hijacking the chat, JioMeet offers a host of options for its admins (called as host). He/she can press a kill switch to disconnect everyone on a video call or they can mute any particular participant or kick him/her out of the meeting with just a switch. For those who don’t want to download the app, you can access it via Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox by following the meeting link to broadcast the feed.
What’s more exciting is its conference history feature where users can listen to old video calls when needed. Talking about a few issues we discovered, unlike Google Duo and other apps where you will be thrown to a fullscreen UI when a call arrives, you won’t find it on this app. It literally shows a tiny notification on the top of the screen clicking which reveals the fullscreen UI as said before. The app will be shortly available for downloads on major marketplaces.
