LG Electronics has been developing its proprietary deep learning-based artificial intelligence technology along with the rollout of its own AI development tool to all LG business divisions. This step of introducing the LG DeepThinQ, as it has been named, will boost product releases, that are capable of taking the advantages of Artificial Intelligence.
DeepThinQ 1.0 was developed last year, as LG established its Artificial Intelligence Lab in Korea to accelerate research on AI. As per the tech giant, the platform enables easy integration of AI into a wider range of products, which will further allow LG product developers to apply deep-learning technologies to future products.
As LG recently announced their AI brand ThinQ, LG products developed with DeepThinQ, ranging from mobile devices to home appliances, will deliver a comprehensive user experience by linking a host of technologies and solutions to its state-of-the-art AI platform. LG said that the DeepThinQ 1.0 boasts of AI function like voice, video, and sensor recognition along with the sense and measurement of space along with human body detection. The DeepThinQ has been developed with data LG gained from usage patterns of LG customers over the years.
DeepThinQ 1.0 will be supporting a variety of operating platforms including Android, Linux, and WebOS. LG ThinQ uses ‘live and learn’ which means the products on DeepThinQ platform can educate themselves using cloud servers to become smarter over time. This will allow LG AI products to understand surrounding environment as well as the behavioral patterns of their customers, just like LG ThinQ air conditioner learns customers’ living patterns over time and cools the room automatically to the temperature preferred by the occupant.
While in the case of automobile, LG’s cabin monitoring technology can learn the driver’s facial expressions and gestures to automatically recognize when the driver feels drowsy. ThinQ will also be able to automatically adjust the music, lighting, or climate inside the car by learning about the passengers who travel frequently using that car. In case, you’re still wondering how it will impact you in real life, here’s a short demo.

DeepThinQ is already being implemented by LG in some of its commercial and consumer products. LG’s Airport Guide Robots at Korea’s Incheon International Airport employs sophisticated ambient noise to improve voice recognition whereas LG’s robot vacuum cleaner can differentiate between a chair and a dog, and makes its way without hitting anything cleaning the floor.

Commenting on DeepThinQ, Dr. IP Park, Chief Technology Officer at LG Electronics, said, “DeepThinQ is the embodiment of our open philosophy – to provide the most powerful AI solutions to our customers via a strategy of open platform, open partnership and open connectivity. ThinQ will completely change the way consumers use our products because ThinQ products will learn about them to provide intelligent services, not the other way around.”
