LG is bringing all its AI-powered and connected devices under one roof which it likes to call ThinQ, and the latest addition to the sub-brand is the LG V30S ThinQ. This is the first phone from the company to launch under ThinQ and includes an improved set of AI features. Apart from this, the phone is based on the LG V30 flagship launched last year and shares quite a few of its specifications.

Starting from Vision AI, the LG V30S ThinQ comes with AI CAM that recommends an optimal shooting mode to the user based on the subject being shot. Bright Mode, on the other hand, helps improve the image quality by reducing the noise using its algorithms. Then there is QLens which can be used to scan QR codes, things, and landmarks to give you contextual results based on the subject. It can even recommend an online store to buy the scanned product at the lowest price.

Voice AI is another AI-based capability that the LG V30S ThinQ has got in its refreshed variant. LG has deeply integrated the Google Assistant to let the user do specific tasks within certain apps using their voice only. Google had also announced that it has partnered with a few smartphone vendors to enable deeper integration of Google Assistant, much like what Bixby does on Samsung phones.

Apart from these, the LG V30S ThinQ comes with the same 6-inch 18:9 QHD+ OLED display that is covered with Gorilla Glass 5. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and has 6GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage for the V30S ThinQ variant and 256GB for V30S+ ThinQ variant. The phone runs Android 8.0 with LG UX 6.0+ and comes with 16MP + 13MP cameras on the back and a 5MP camera on the front.

The handset is IP68 and MIL-STD 810G certified and supports 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC along with a fingerprint scanner on the back. The phone has a 3,300mAh battery and LG has added support for Quick Charge 3.0 and wireless charging. LG was rumoured to skip the launch of LG G7 this time in February and may launch the phone sometime later this year. Instead of launching new phones each year, LG was reported to be focusing on a greater longevity of existing flagships.

The LG V30S ThinQ has been announced in two new colours – Moroccan Blue and Platinum Grey colour options. The phone will be available in South Korea from March and the availability in other parts of the world will follow. The company has announced the phone’s pricing yet. However, LG has planned to bring aforementioned, or similar, AI capabilities to more of its smartphones, subject to hardware capability, via a software update in the coming months. The LG V30S ThinQ will be showcased at LG’s booth during the MWC 2018.
