Meizu 16 and Meizu 16 Plus gets 3C certification, to launch on August 8

The Chinese smartphone maker, Meizu, is all ready to introduce their next-gen flagship smartphone in its home country. The brand is going to announce Meizu 16 and Meizu 16 Plus as a successor of the previously launched Meizu 15. When it comes to specifications and design, there is nothing left to imagination thanks to the brand’s CEO Huang Zhang. From time to time, the top executive teased the smartphone bit by bit on their official community forum.

If you’re not aware, every smartphone in China has to undergo 3C certification before making its way to the market. As per the recent report, both the smartphone recently got the certification with model numbers M882Q and M892Q. Unfortunately, the listing didn’t reveal any specifics about the device.

The Chinese smartphone brand recently released a poster that not only confirms the launch date but also reveals some aspects of the device. As per the teaser, the smartphones are going official on August 8. Apart from that, the poster confirmed that the device will be featuring Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset. You can also see the indication of the in-display fingerprint sensor.

In addition, an alleged Meizu 16 live images surfaced online showing the back of the device in white color. There is a dual camera setup at the back with the vertical alignment. You can also see a typical round LED flash right under the cameras. Since there is no fingerprint sensor at the back meaning this is the Plus variant we’re talking about. If you’re not aware, the plus variant of the device is supposed to come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. On top of that, the back of the device seems to be made up of glass with the sides being metal most likely aluminum.

Coming to the specifications, the smartphone is going to come with a super AMOLED display having an aspect ratio of 18:9 meaning there is no notch on the display. As per the various rumors, this display is supplied by Samsung. It is worth noting that the device will come with tiny top and bottom bezels and even tinier side bezels giving it higher screen-to-body ratio. The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with Adreno 630 GPU. The smartphone will be available in 6GB RAM and 8GB RAM variant.

Speaking of optics, the smartphone will come with a dual camera setup at the back consisting of a 12MP primary sensor while there is no word on the secondary sensor. We can also expect a host of AI-related features considering the fact that it is a flagship smartphone. Another report also suggests that the device will boast a 7.3mm profile making it thinner than the most flagship devices in the market as of now. The device is not just thinner but also lighter weighing around 152 grams. Other reports also suggest the presence of Vapor chamber for cooling purposes. You can also expect a wireless charging in the plus variant most likely.

Jumping towards the pricing, the base variant having 6GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage will set you back 2,399 yuan (roughly Rs. 24,350).  The 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant is rumored to cost 2,699 yuan (Rs.27,400 approx.) while the 8GB RAM variant with the same storage capacity will damage your pockets by 2,999 yuan (Rs.30,450 approx.). This was the pricing of the upcoming Meizu 16. The plus variant, on the other hand, comes with 8GB RAM & 128 storage priced at 3,299 yuan (Rs.33,500 approx.) while the 256GB variant is going to cost you 3,599 yuan (Rs.36,500 approx.)

Looking at the current business model of the brand, we’re not expecting this smartphone to launch in India. The brand is also working on a mid-budget smartphone to be known as Meizu X8 which will sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset.
