Late last year, Motorola announced that it will also jump in with the trend of foldable smartphones. But Motorola didn’t just announce a new foldable smartphone, it did so by bringing back the classic Motorola Razr which was loved by millions back in the day.

Therefore, it was clear that a nostalgia factor was involved in the launch of this phone. Also, the first impressions of Motorola’s Razr foldable smartphone were also great. Because we saw that the company took a different approach to Samsung and Huawei in designing its hinge.

The Motorola Razr has managed to achieve what no foldable smartphone has, yet, which is no crease on its screen despite having a hinge. If you look at the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Galaxy Flip and even the Huawei Mate X from China, all these phones have a crease in the middle. Motorola’s hinge mechanism works in such a way that the display is not folded entirely but there is a gap which is why the crease is not there.

Also, Motorola Razr’s opening and closing of the fold is different in a way that its display goes slightly inside the body when completely folded which also helps in not developing a crease. However, we have seen the first incident of a Motorola Razr malfunctioning out in the wild which might be a huge problem for the company.

As per TheVerge’s report, at least one of the Motorola Razr users has reported that their display has been broken. This device reportedly belongs to a publication named Input whose reporter named Raymond Wong is testing the device for a full review. He has reported that this unit’s lamination has peeled off from the display.

It is quite common for a foldable device to have lamination which is there to protect the display from fingernails and other pointy objects since the display panels are quite delicate.

But we can say that the lamination getting peeled off from display is not something that should happen. Also, the things get worse as there is now a gap between the display and lamination on Wong’s unit which can potentially let dust inside and damage the panel.

Also, Wong has reported that the display is working fine but he is facing touchscreen issues due to the gap between lamination and display. He says that the middle of Razr’s display “is not the most responsive” and we feel that it is obvious because the gap would be causing troubles for the display to register an input.

It also seems like the hinge of Motorola Razr that was applauded the most for eliminating the crease and being better in design than others is to be blamed for this incident.

Because Wong says that his unit was never dropped and that it has “never been wet, or moist, or even near liquid”. He also feels that this bubble could have been developed due to temperature changes as he was using his device in cold outside and then inside his apartment which was warm.
