If you have been in the market for the best budget-friendly gaming laptop at a particular budget, you would know that there are particular trade-offs as well as shortcomings that come standard with any gaming laptop out there. For example, a gaming laptop promises you to provide the best-in-class performance which is “desktop-like” if you have a good budget. Inside these laptops, you get a mid-range GTX graphics card from Nvidia or an RTX card if your budget is great. But design is not a strong point for gaming laptops as they are heavy, have larger bezels and might not have the biggest of trackpads.
However, if you are a gamer buying a gaming laptop then you know what you are getting into. But we now see that Dell is changing this trend with the launch of its new gaming laptop which is the Dell G7. This laptop comes in Dell’s G-series gaming laptops that have the G3 and the G5 as well. As for the Dell G7 gaming laptop, you have two different variants which are Dell G7 15 and the Dell G7 17. Just like the name suggests, they come in 15-inch and 17-inch display size respectively.
Coming to the Dell G7, we have a pleasant surprise for the gamers out there because Dell has launched this device with much slimmer bezels. To be precise, TheVerge reports that Dell G7’s bezels have shrunk from “9.9mm to 6.5mm on the G7 15 and to 8.16mm on the G7 17”. These measurements tell you that the bezels have been reduced significantly. But do note that there is a big chin bezel at the bottom of the display having the company logo.
As for the specifications, you get top-notch performance from 10th-gen Intel CPUs up to Intel Core i9 as well as Nvidia GPUs up to RTX 2070 Max-Q for the G7 15 whereas the G7 17 has up to RTX 2070 Super card. Also, you now have a coloured LED on the front of the deck that looks cool while using the laptop for that gamery look that everyone wants.
Rest of the Dell G7 laptop does look like a gaming laptop with a thick body for the cooling that it needs. But one thing that we were surprised regarding the Dell G7 series is its pricing. This is because Dell has kept the price of Dell G7 15 and the Dell G7 17 the exact same which starts at $1429. This means that you can get a bigger 17-inch display at the same price as its 15-inch variant.
But there is an obvious trade-off because if you might have noticed, the Dell G7 17 does not have significantly reduced bezels as the G7 15 does so you have the older design for that price. Also, the Dell G7 17 is available right now whereas the new Dell G7 15 is not. Dell says that the G7 15 will be available from June 29 in the US.
