- The HyperOS 2 Update revamps the Photos app with AI tools that auto-sort, edit, and create memory albums from your gallery.
- It improves system performance with smoother UI transitions, faster response times, and better multitasking stability.
- Cloud backups now retain original photo quality, while cross-device syncing between Xiaomi phones, tablets, and TVs is seamless and real-time.
I’ve been using Xiaomi phone and Pad 6 as my primarily device for a while, and recently got upgraded to the HyperOS 2 update. I didn’t expect a major change, but honestly, it does feel like more than just a regular update.
It brings in a bunch of useful stuff that actually makes sense. Not trying to hype it too much, but yeah, there are some real improvements here. Let me just explain what I noticed and what might matter to you.
HyperOS 2 update: A real experience with Xiaomi’s new features
Photos are a lot more useful now
So first thing I saw was the Photos app is not the same anymore. With the HyperOS 2 update, Xiaomi added this AI matting feature, which basically lets you remove backgrounds easily. It’s simple to use. You can also move your subject into different scenes, like weather-based or location-based ones.
And group selfies? They actually look better now. There’s a smart beauty filter that just fixes things without making you look fake. They’ve also added some animated stickers, collages, and ready-made templates, which honestly saves time if you’re into posting pics online.
What I liked more though was how the gallery is sorted. It’s easier to search by people or events. I just typed “trip” and it pulled all related photos from May. There’s also this Memory Album thing that puts photos into short stories. It’s automatic. You don’t need to do anything extra.
Performance is better, not just in theory
Now, about the speed part. I don’t know how Xiaomi did it, but the phone just feels quicker. Opening apps, going back to the home screen, swiping around, it’s all more responsive. Especially small things like the status bar showing up fast when you swipe back.
UI transitions also look smoother. It doesn’t lag, even when switching between heavy apps. Not saying it’s perfect, but it’s definitely a step up from the last version.

Cloud and multi-device stuff is finally usable
This is where Xiaomi really stepped it up. With the HyperOS 2 update, stuff backed up to Xiaomi Cloud now stays in the original quality. Earlier I had issues with resolution being messed up, but now it keeps it sharp. Also, the gallery shows which photos are local and which are cloud-backed. That helps. There’s even a real-time backup status and how much space is left.
Sharing between Xiaomi devices also works better now. I tried sending pics from my phone to my tablet, and it went through instantly. Shared albums also sync across my TV, which is kinda cool. No extra apps needed.
There’s also a device dashboard now
They added this Smart Service dashboard where you can check what’s using your space, find duplicate files, and get tips on how to clean things up. Pretty handy when your storage keeps running low and you’re not sure why.
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting too much, but the HyperOS 2 update surprised me. It’s not just a patch or minor upgrade. They actually fixed stuff, added helpful features, and made the phone feel newer without buying a new one. If you’re using a Xiaomi device, and it supports this update, I’d say try it. It’s worth it.
