OnePlus has been one of the shining stars of the smartphone industry and it is also the brand with a huge fanbase. This means that anything and everything that OnePlus does is seen with lots of anticipation. This also includes their smartphone launches and we are waiting to see the launch of OnePlus 8 series later this year.
Traditionally, we have seen that OnePlus launches its first set of flagship phones in the first half of the year. This is usually around the end of May or the beginning of June every year as seen with the OnePlus 7 series launch too. However, there were reports OnePlus could launch its smartphones early this year. And it looks like that is indeed true as reported by TechRadar India citing one of its sources.
Because the publication reports that OnePlus will launch their OnePlus 8 series by the “second week of April” which is much earlier than their traditional timeline of smartphone launches. This is also interesting because the coronavirus fears have meant that many companies are delaying their launches and Apple’s iPhone 9 is reportedly delayed as well.
Now, some reports also give us a particular date for the OnePlus 8 series launch which is “April 14” and it now seems believable given the fact that it falls in the second week of April. It is already announced by OnePlus that this year’s launch, at least for the first half, will be an online-only event due to the virus outbreak. The publication also mentions that this will be a global launch so we might not see separate events held for China, India and the US as seen last year.
On the other hand, it also looks like OnePlus is going back to its roots with the timing of its announcement as the OnePlus One, its first smartphone was launched in April 2014 too. There is no detail right now as to which smartphones will be launched at this event because the OnePlus 8 series is rumoured to come with OnePlus 8 Lite, OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro.
As for the OnePlus 8 series, we are expecting OnePlus’ phones to finally get wireless charging, as well as a proper IP rating, is rumoured. Also, OnePlus will move to 120Hz QHD+ display for at least the OnePlus 8 Pro while the OnePlus 8 might also get the same treatment. The devices will also have Snapdragon 865 processor which means 5G support and OnePlus’ Warp Charge will get even faster.
