- The US version of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has been benchmarked, revealing its potential Snapdragon 8 Elite "for Galaxy" chipset and 12GB of RAM.
- Running Android 16 with One UI 8, the foldable is expected to feature dual 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED displays and a versatile triple rear camera system.
- Potential new import taxes could push the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in the US above the $2,000 mark.
Samsung continues to lead the charge in foldable technology. While Apple is reportedly planning to launch its first foldable device in 2027, Samsung is gearing up to release the Galaxy Z Fold 7 US version in just a few months. So, what’s all the buzz about?
Galaxy Z Fold 7 US Version Listed on Geekbench Ahead of Launch
A device identified as SM-F966U recently appeared on Geekbench, strongly believed to be the US model of the Galaxy Fold 7. Although the RAM remains at 12 GB, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, the upcoming Fold 7 is gearing up to be a strong performance contender.
What stands out is its motherboard codename: “sun,” tied to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 “for Galaxy” chip. This processor, optimized specifically for Samsung devices, is also expected in the upcoming Galaxy S25 lineup. In addition, the Fold 7 runs One UI 8, paired with Android 16, currently in early beta on Pixel devices.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 Rumored Specifications
According to a recent leak, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will sport an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED inner display with a resolution of 2160 × 1856 and a 120Hz refresh rate. Further, the 6.5-inch AMOLED outer screen also offers a 120Hz refresh rate with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection for improved durability.
Other than that, Samsung appears to be playing it safe with battery specs. The Fold 7 could include a 4400mAh battery with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging, unchanged from last year. While some may have hoped for faster charging, Samsung rarely makes significant changes in this area between generations.
Lastly, the camera system is basically standard with the Fold 6, as it may equip a 50MP main shooter, 12MP ultra-wide, and a 10MP periscope lens with 3x optical zoom. Additionally, the under-display 4MP selfie camera is also expected to return, preserving that immersive main display experience.

Pricing & Market Pressure
The biggest hurdle? Likely the price. With import taxes potentially going into effect in July, premium smartphones may see price hikes. If Samsung compensates some of that cost, the Fold 7 could stay just under the $2,000 mark. Still, it’s a tough pill to swallow for most consumers, especially when many upgrades are minor.
While the Galaxy Z Fold 7 might not represent a complete overhaul, it reinforces Samsung’s aggressive push to dominate the foldable segment. As Apple lags behind, Samsung is capitalizing on the opportunity to refine and lead—and that may be just enough to stay ahead in the foldable game.
