- Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold 2 is reportedly facing a launch delay due to cost-related challenges.
- A redesigned hinge could make the next TriFold thinner and lighter than the current model.
- Samsung's long-rumored slidable smartphone may launch sooner than previously expected.
Samsung’s next-generation TriFold smartphone may not launch anytime soon. As a new report from a Korean tipster, Lanzuk (yeux1122), suggests, the South Korean company is perhaps delaying the rumored Galaxy Z TriFold 2. Instead, Samsung appears to be developing its long-rumored slidable smartphone, and it could arrive sooner than expected.
The information comes from a post on Naver, where the leaker shared details originating from companies connected to Samsung’s supply chain. Obviously, Samsung has not officially confirmed these details; the information should be treated with a pinch of salt rather than confirmed news.
Galaxy Z TriFold 2 could miss its expected launch window
According to the leak, Samsung is still actively working on the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 with an improved hinge technology. However, the endeavor has reportedly faced cost-related challenges. As a result, it has made the device’s launch window shift beyond its original timeline.
Interestingly, the report does not explain or reveal any cost-related concerns or indicate how long the delay could be. As of now, there is no factual information about the amended launch timeline, and Samsung remains mum on the matter.

Redesigned hinge may bring a slimmer, lighter TriFold
The latest claim further strengthens Lanzuk’s earlier report that Samsung is working on a completely new hinge technology for the Galaxy Z TriFold 2.
The leaker notes that the revamped mechanism may reduce both the phone’s thickness and weight by making nearly every hinge component more uniform in size, in short, offering a bezel-less or creaseless display. If this turns out accurate, it could rectify one of the biggest flaws noticed in Samsung’s first TriFold smartphone, its bulky form factor. Due to which, the TriFold was discontinued just months after its launch.
How it compares to the Galaxy Z Fold 7
When we compare a device to its competitor, that is when we get to know which one’s better. This is exactly what would happen with the upcoming TriFold 2. The need for a slimmer design becomes more significant when compared to its previous iteration.
The first-gen Galaxy Z TriFold measures 12.9mm thick when folded and weighs 309g. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is noticeably slimmer at 8.9mm and weighs 215g.
If Samsung manages to reduce the TriFold’s dimensions, the next-gen TriFold could become much easier to carry and use while maintaining its position in the premium foldable category.
Samsung’s slidable phone could launch earlier than expected
The report is further creating headlines as it suggests that Samsung’s highly anticipated slidable smartphone, which itself could be an innovation, has moved to the next step in internal development. According to Lanzuk, the device is now expected to release sooner than at first projected.
However, no technical specification or updated launch window was shared, so it remains a mystery when Samsung could launch the rumored product. Even though the company has showcased sideable display concepts in past years, it has yet to unveil a commercial slideable smartphone.
