Qualcomm is one of the largest chip makers in the world. The San Diego-based giant has released four new chipsets which include two plus versions of existing chipsets and two new chipsets with 5G connectivity and more. Here are all the four chipsets released at the event for entry-level and mid-range devices.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+
The Snapdragon 778G+ is a plus version of Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G which has made its name in the premium mid-range segment. The chipset offers a Kryo 670 Prime core that propels at 2.5GHz of max frequency as opposed to 2.4GHz on the non-Plus variant. There’s 20 percent higher performance clocked on the Adreno 642L GPU as well.
The 5G connectivity remains the same thanks to the X53 5G modem which offers up to 1.6 Gbps uplink and 3.7Gbps downlink speeds. Other specifications w.r.t. AI capabilities, ISP, wireless connectivity, etc, remain unchanged.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+
The second plus variant of an existing chipset is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ that houses a 5G modem for affordable 5G devices. Apart from that, the chipset continues to be made on an 8nm node with Kryo 460 CPU cores where the Prime core has been overclocked to 2.2GHz as opposed to 2.0GHz on the Snapdragon 480.
Moving on, the chipset is able to support 1080p+ displays at 120Hz. The chipset uses a Snapdragon X51 5G modem that enables it to have access to both mmWave and sub-6 GHz networks. The GPU remains unchanged with Adreno 619 GPU although Qualcomm has tuned the performance of both CPU and GPU for better performance. There’s Spectra 345 ISP and QC4+ support just like the non-Plus variant.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 695
Introducing the new Snapdragon 665 SoC which is a successor to Snapdragon 690. It supports mmWave 5G networks. Apart from that, the GPU on the chip has improved in performance by up to 30percent while the CPU has been tuned to produce up to 15 percent higher performance. All this is because of a new Kryo 660 CPU core as opposed to 560 on the Snapdragon 690 as well as the inclusion of Adreno 619 as the GPU. This is the same GPU as seen with the Snapdragon 480+.
The chipset is fabricated on a 6nm node which explains the boost in performance as well while bringing down the energy consumption considerably. All this offers an immersive gaming experience on the device running SD695 along with improved productivity.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 680
This is the last of four chipsets released earlier on Tuesday. The chipset is fabbed on a 6nm process as other siblings. It is a 4G LTE chipset and comes with slightly upgraded Kryo 265 CPU cores, Adreno 610 GPU, and Spectra 346 ISP, among other features.
