OpenAI has introduced its advanced AI video generation model, Sora, to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users. Initially launched as a research preview in February 2024, Sora AI has now become a fully developed product designed to revolutionize video storytelling.
What is Sora AI video model?
Sora AI is an advanced tool that generates videos based on text prompts, similar to OpenAI’s DALL-E image-generation model. With its enhanced version, Sora Turbo, the model offers faster and more efficient performance, making it a highlight of OpenAI’s “12 Days of OpenAI” campaign.
Features of Sora AI
Sora brings a host of innovative features that cater to both casual creators and professionals:
- High-Resolution Video Generation: Sora supports video creation in up to 1080p resolution.
- Dynamic Editing Tools: The platform includes advanced tools such as Remix for modifying video elements, Re-cut for extending specific scenes, and a Storyboard Tool for precise control over video frames.
- Creative Enhancements: Creators can add flair to their videos with features like seamless looping, blending of two videos, and style presets that provide unique, customizable aesthetics.

Safeguards and ethical use
OpenAI has in place strong controls for Sora to be used responsibly. All videos carry metadata from C2PA and default watermarks for clarity purposes. The company has more advanced tools that would ensure blocking of harmful content as well as restricting its use, such as making unauthorized deepfakes.
Overcoming limitations
While Sora puts new standards for AI-generated video, OpenAI doesn’t hide its current limitations in it. These include an inability to render complex actions realistically and maintain realistic physics for an extended period of time. The company is indeed busy improving the affordability of the model and its general performance.
Sora is launched by OpenAI to enable users to unleash unparalleled creative expression through these tools. As the company continues to refine its technology, Sora will mark a quantum leap forward in video generation and unlock all kinds of possibilities in storytelling and content creation.
