With over five million signs up in the first few hours, the Threads app by Instagram has proven its caliber on its very first appearance. Launched after hundreds of leaks, reports, and rumors, Mark Zuckerberg’s Threads app is now available across Apple App Store and Google Play Store for iOS and Android users respectively.
Threads is a text-based social networking platform where you can submit posts of up to 500 characters. Yep, it is double what Twitter (non-Blue subscribers) offers at 280 characters. It’s not just limited to text but you can post photos and videos up to five minutes long. The app is in the business as a strong contender to Twitter.
The Threads app enjoys close integration with Instagram so you can simply use the same credentials and bingo, you are logged in. The main feed gives you access to recommended content posted by people you follow. You can tweak the app to show following-only content or recommended and more features will be added as we speak.
Threads parent company Meta has incorporated privacy controls from Instagram. It lets you filter out words in replicas, and put a limit on who can respond to your threads (yes, Threads is calling its posts & replies as ‘threads’).
On the Threads app, you can simply create an account using Instagram and hit the ‘New Thread’ button to post something that comes to your mind. Threads app is available in 100+ countries including the US. However, it won’t be available in the EU due to compliance issues. Threads may launch in the EU in the future once the developers have worked out compliance at the highest standards.
