Xiaomi unveils Mi Drone with a super affordable price tag

The already expected Xiaomi Mi Drone is official now! This Chinese smartphone producer Xiaomi, has finally unveiled their new product: the Mi drone. The fact that makes it ultimately unsurprising is that they already teased it a week ago, that quite justifies why it was an ‘already expected’ product.

No wonder you’re amazed, aren’t you? But here’s a fact: it’s not exactly a Xiaomi creation, the company is working with another China-based brand Flymi that conceives the end products. But with a Mi branding, Xiaomi does enable itself to sell it through their online store mi.com as well as their channels.

Coming to the Drone itself, the Mi drone features itself as a super affordable and impressive option which is in power with the rest in the market, that cost nearly twice as much. The Mi drone is priced at around $380 (2499 CNY) for the basic model which shoots upto 1080P and around $460 (2999 CNY) for the upgraded model which shoots at 4K resolution. So long, DJI, the soon-becoming a ‘so-called’ market leader.

The camera beneath the Mi drone is either 4K or 1080P as I talked earlier, they’re fit in ball like shape. Diving deep into the details, it sports a Sony 12.4 megapixel sensor that enables you to record 3,840 x 2,160 pixels at 30fps. It also supports RAW photo capturing. The camera works extremely fast; correcting itself 2,000 times per second by using the 3-axis gimbal for a really optimal stabilisation process.

This time, Xiaomi plans to take a different approach at product development, they plan to crowd fund the cheaper version of the drone using the Mi Home application, 26th May 2016 onwards. The 4K version of the drone will be available at the end of July for Beta testing. There’s no information about the final release and further sales outside china. What are your thoughts?
