  • Xiaomi is reportedly working on Xiaomi MIX 5, the next-gen flagship phone in the MIX series.
  • If true, this would make MIX 5 the first to arrive almost five years after it's predecessor launched back in August 2021.
  • Apparently, Xiaomi MIX 5 reportedly packs in Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 Pro SoC, magnetic lenses, HyperOS 4 based on Android 17, and an under-display front camera.

There seems to be a lot of buzz around the Xiaomi MIX 5 launch, as it is reportedly arriving this year. Some of the high-stakes features that the phone will pick up include an under-display camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, HyperOS 4, and Xiaomi’s magnetic lenses on board, and above all, we could see a global release for the Mix 5. Here’s more about the latest buzz.

Xiaomi MIX 5 launch imminent, 5 years after last-gen model debuted

According to internal code references spotted by Xiaomi Time, the Xiaomi MIX 5 is speculated to arrive this year. This is a non-foldable MIX phone coming almost five years after the last-gen Xiaomi MIX 4 made its debut in 2021.

The report mentions a Xiaomi flagship phone codenamed “Hongkong” with a model number Q5. Although the relation between this model number and MIX 5 may not be so apparent, if you follow Xiaomi news, you’d know the ‘Q’ here potentially refers to ‘2026,’ followed by ‘5,’ which is linked to MIX 5. For reference, Xiaomi used model number ‘E5’ for MIX 3, ‘E5G’ for MIX 3 5G, and ‘K8’ for MIX 4. Thus, the term ‘Q5’ is likely a shorthand for the launch window for MIX 5, as mentioned above.

According to the reports, the Xiaomi MIX 5 could pick up the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, the upcoming and yet unreleased chipset. The phone will ship with Xiaomi HyperOS 4 out of the box. In fact, it could be the first one to pick it up once the Android 17-backed HyperOS 4 arrives later this year.

Xiaomi MIX 5 tipped with under-display camera

Another USP in the Xiaomi MIX 5 rumors includes an under-display front camera (UDC) system coupled with a high refresh rate. Although we have come a long way in the camera department, it seems appropriate that under-display cameras are still suffering from ill effects such as ghosting. We are not expecting MIX 5 from UDC to magically become a perfect specimen anyway.

Xiaomi MIX 5 global launch

Another buzz is around MIX 5’s launch. Apparently, this model won’t be China-exclusive, and instead, we are hearing about its global launch. It means MIX 5 will launch in India, global markets, and the EEA, except Japan. This makes MIX 5 the first model in the series to debut outside China since the first-ever MIX models were launched in 2019.
