Xiaomi 12, 12 Pro & 12X Launched in China with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1: All you need to know

It’s here and I wouldn’t deny it’s amazing. The Xiaomi 12 series went official earlier today with Xiaomi 12, 12 Pro, and 12X equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC except for the ‘X’ variant which resorts to a Snapdragon 870 SoC instead. The trio has seen an upgrade in terms of camera capability, charging speed, battery size, display tech, and more. As you must have guessed by now, the hierarchy goes from 12X to 12 to 12 Pro although all the entries are pretty powerful. Xiaomi 12, 12 Pro, and 12X Pricing and Availability

Pricing for the entry-level Xiaomi 12 with 8GB+128GB storage is CNY3699, CNY3999 for 8GB+256GB, and finally at CNY4399 for the 12GB+256GB storage. The Xiaomi 12X price tag commences at CNY3199 for its 8GB+128GB variant while the mid 8GB+256GB variant goes for sale at CNY3499 and the highest trim at 12GB+256GB goes on sale at CNY3799.

Finally, the Xiaomi 12 Pro will fetch a price of CNY4699 for the base 8GB+128GB while ging for CNY4999 and CNY5799 for the 8GB+256GB and 12GB+256GB trims respectively. Xiaomi 12 availability commences on December 31st in China while its international availability and pricing will be revealed later. The trio is available in Pink, Blue, and Black as well as a green vegan leather version although it is up for the standard and Pro variants only.

Let’s start with Xiaomi 12, the base variant and one of the compact smartphones with a width less than iPhone 13. The flagship phone’s display clocks at a 6.28-inch AMOLED panel with an FHD+ resolution and has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Thanks to the AMOLED panel, there’s an in-display fingerprint scanner on-board and to fend off the display against scratches and drops, there’s a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection on top.

Moving on, we have a triple rear camera on-board. The primary sensor brings in a cutting-edge 50MP IMX 766 sensor with OIS, 2.0micron pixel size with 1/1.56” sensor size. This is the same sensor seen on many other flagship smartphones this year as well. There’s a 13MP ultrawide snapper mounted on Xiaomi 12 along with a 5MP tele-macro camera with a 50mm equivalent lens.

The device has Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC as said along with 8GB, 12GB RAM, and 128GB, 256GB of storage options.

A true style icon, Xiaomi 12 gets a cooling pad too which is sized appropriately. There’s a 4500 mAh battery under the hood that will keep you glued for ages while the 67W fast charging which lets you juice up the battery in no time. There’s also a 50W wireless and 10W reverse charging on-board in case you are looking for it.

Presenting the spotlight model of the hour. The Xiaomi 12 Pro packs in a snappy Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 along with 8, 12GB RAM and 128, 256GB of storage. You get a much bigger 6.73-inch 1440p LTPO 2.0 AMOLED panel with the Pro version that has a variable refresh rate that updates the display anywhere from 1 to 120Hz dynamically. The phone uses a 12-bit color depth and has 1500 nits of maximum brightness as output. There’s a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on top as well for extreme protection against falls and whatnot.

Moving on, we have a triple rear camera only this time, all the sensors are 50MP in size. There’s a 50MP Sony IMX707 primary shooter with pixel-binning, OIS, and an effective pixel size of 2.44micron. A 50MP portrait camera takes exorbitant shots while the 50MP ultrawide sensor grabs the best shots in a wider field of view.

The Chinese smartphone maker has used a feature called CyberFocus which straps on the subject’s faces and background elements offering the best shots it can. There’s also much improvement in terms of night mode photography with the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

The device uses a larger battery which is a dual-cell 4600 mAh that makes the most of charging at a whopping 120W speed wired and 50W wirelessly. There’s a Surge P1 charging chip embedded in the device that takes care of any surge and performs power management on the device itself.

The third iteration in the Xiaomi 12 series does get the best specifications although it has been watered down a bit. There’s a 6.28-inch 120HZ AMOLED panel, a 4500 mAh battery with 67W fast charging tech and the device runs on Snapdragon 870 instead of the premium and flagship chipset. But hey, SD870 SoC is not a bad chipset either as it belongs to the flagship class of chipsets.

Xiaomi 12X

Xiaomi 12X doesn’t support wireless or reverse charging as well. The camera setup remains the same as the non-Pro version in a 6P lens configuration with OIS on-board. The display tech is surprisingly stunning.

About the trio, they are equipped with a UFS 3.1 storage, LPDDR5 RAM, Wi-Fi, Sound by Harman Kardon, the displays are HDR10+ and in the DCI-P3 color space to list out just a few things. Also, all the smartphones run on Android 12-powered MIUI 13 out-of-the-box.
