The Chinese smartphone vendor has literally taken over the smartphone market in India holding the top spot. The Redmi Note 4 isn’t just the top-selling smartphone in India but it also helped the company reach that top position. The phone was announced in January this year and it is now due for an upgrade. As per some of the reports, the Redmi Note 5 should be out in the coming January.

Considering the response the Redmi Note 4 received, it wouldn’t be surprising if Xiaomi launches the Note 5 in India in January itself. With the details of its availability, some of the major specifications have also been revealed. The reports suggest that the phone would be bringing some major changes to the design along with some upgrades to its internals as well.

A few hands-on images of the alleged Redmi Note 5 have leaked in the past too that revealed a taller 18:9 display. The phone is expected to sport a 5.99-inch display with an FHD+ resolution. The recently announced Redmi 5 also includes a bezel-less display, so the chances are high for the Redmi Note 5 to get one too.

While the Redmi Note 4 came powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor and a RAM capacity of 2GB on the base variant, the Redmi Note 5 would see a significant bump. It will sport a newer Snapdragon 630 processor that offers an even better balance between performance and power efficiency. The base variant of the Note 5 will now have 3GB RAM, while the higher-end one will have 4GB of RAM.

Its camera will also see a major bump to a dual-camera setup. The placement of the cameras, however, wouldn’t be like the Mi A1 and they would be placed vertically with the fingerprint scanner below them. Though, their performance may remain to be more or less the same. The Redmi Note 5 might carry a large 4000mAh battery unlike the 3000mAh one on the Redmi 5A does and should come running MIUI 9 on top of Android 7.0 Nougat.

Xiaomi did price the Redmi Note 4 quite aggressively and the same is expected for the Note 5 too. The phone’s price should hover around the same space like it earlier did, putting it directly against the likes of Honor 7X. We shall update you with the pricing details as they are made available.
