Yes you heard it right! iTunes is coming to Android accompanied by Apple Music. This was never expected from Apple thus, what led Apple to take this step? Apple’s sales over iTunes have been declining continuously and maybe Apple has taken this step to cover up the distance through the sales (according to Billboard).

Over 40% of the US digital market is taken away by Apple but Apple unfortunately is noticing a two-digit decline in it’s sales of the market. Apple did bring out a free service to expand the user-base, which is iTunes radio, an ad supported Music streaming platform. So Apple plans to introduce a flat-rate music service which may boom the revenue.

Expanding out to Android would open its store to potentially hundreds of millions of new devices and users who would otherwise not shop at iTunes for music, but that doesn’t make this an automatic slam dunk. Google and Amazon have pretty well entrenched themselves in the digital music sales on Android devices, not to mention the intense competition in the subscription music arena with the likes of Rdio, Spotify, Pandora, Beats Music and of course Google itself.

Expanding to Android is not a small step, the world is full of android devices, the other half who don’t use iOS is a huge amount of public. But the question is, Android has already many applications that have set a benchmark in the market such as Spotify, Rdio, Google Music, Beats Music etc. Will iTunes be able to tackle them? What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.
