The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo announced its subsidiary brand Realme in India. The first device of this brand known as Realme 1 is going to be exclusively launched on Amazon on May 15 in India. Oppo is aggressively pushing its presence in the country, first through gigantic offline marketing and now announcing a new brand which is going to cater a niche audience of smartphone buyers.

Realme smartphones are targeted at the youth and the budget smartphone buyers as stated on Amazon India website. The brand will offer smartphones in the price range of 10,000 to 20,000, and their first product is going to be the Realme 1 which is going to give direct competition to phones like Xiaomi Redmi 5A. There is a standalone official page on Amazon India and you can use notify me button for the sale.

According to the teasers by the company on Amazon India website, it has a unique metallic frame and a shiny diamond-cut back panel that does look gorgeous, along with a single camera and a flash. The design seems similar to the oppo A3 launched last week in China. The page on Amazon further tells us that the Realme phones have been put through 10,000 drop tests, 10,000 USB tests, and 1,00,000 button tests. Further, the company said that Realme users will have access to over 500 authorized service centers across India. Most importantly, it also states a 1-hour guaranteed service for the smartphone in most cases.

The smartphone comes with a single rear camera and an LED flash sitting right of the camera sensors. You will find a volume rocker on the right side while the power button is at the left. There’s also a rounded rectangular fingerprint sensor just below the screen. It might also work as a home button although we’re not sure.

There is a comparison between Realme 1’s unique design and a phone having a generic design on the Amazon India page. That generic design can be a take on the Xiaomi Redmi series. On top of that, Realme name sounds more like a Redmi. It’s pretty clear that Oppo wants to capture the budget smartphone market in India which currently is being dominated by Xiaomi. With the launch of Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and now upcoming Realme devices, Xiaomi might face a tough challenge now. The recent price hike on Xiaomi’s devices also gives Realme an edge and a chance to take over the lead. Well, this budget smartphone market of India is turning to be more interesting and aggressive.
