It has been just a week since the much-anticipated OnePlus Nord was released but perhaps it isn’t the only phone in the Nord lineup. OnePlus confirmed that it is a whole lineup and one can expect a few more phones under the Nord series.

OnePlus Nord is available in India and Europe at the moment while keeping the North American markets out of the loop. However, OnePlus CEO Carl Pei confirmed that phone for the North American markets is expected to arrive later this year although he didn’t specify any timeline.

Cut to now, folks at XDA Developers have found out that the upcoming OnePlus Nord is likely to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 chipset. This would allow OnePlus to compete in a higher mid-range spectrum of the smartphone industry while bringing the price down thus, the next Nord will be cheaper.

The report states that a few callbacks to Snapdragon 690 are spotted on the latest version of OxygenOS 10.5 that the Nord comes pre-loaded with. The source code mentions a method called “isSM6350Products” in the Settings app. SM6350 is the designation that Qualcomm has assigned to the latest Snapdragon 690 5G chipset. It further adds four model numbers that the method checks and returns a value for i.e. BE2025, BE2026, BE2028, or BE2029.

As per GSMArena, OnePlus uses a bizarre naming culture such as AC2001 (and AC2003) which are the two model numbers of the newly released OnePlus Nord has a codename Avicii. OnePlus is eyeing for the model number “Billie Eilish” or “BE” with the same.

Talking about the upcoming OnePlus Nord’ Snapdragon 690 processor, it is manufactured by Samsung using its 8nm LPP process that puts it in the front line leaving the Snapdragon 675 (predecessor) behind while its CPU and GPU designs are much higher-tier than Snapdragon 720G and 730G.

Snapdragon 690 packs in 2 high-performance ARM Cortex-A77 CPU cores at 2.0 GHz plus six power-efficient Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 1.7GHz max frequency. The Adreno 619L tags along with the chipset making it 60% faster than its predecessor. Plus, there’s an integrated Snapdragon X51 5G modem that allows the upcoming OnePlus Nord users to connect to sub-6GHz 5G networks without shelling out more from their pockets.

As of now, there’s no confirmation on what the upcoming Nord device will be called and when it will arrive in the U.S. But perhaps the phone will have a price tag lower than what the latest Nord is offered at Rs 27,999/£379/€399 in India/UK/Europe respectively.
