- Vivo is working on a portable action camera with gimbal support for steady videos.
- This has been in the news since late 2025 and purported launch window of first half of this year.
- A 4K high-def action camera from Vivo would rival the likes of Insta360 and DJI Osmo Pocket 4, where the latter would soon arrive.
The Vivo action camera comes a bit closer to reality as the latest report puts a tentative release in the first half of 2026. Turns out the company has been working on its action camera for quite some time, initially hinted at in late 2025. Cut to now, the action cam would rival the DJI Osmo Pocket 4, coming around February or March this year.
Vivo action camera is in the pipeline, ready to launch soon
According to Chinese outlet Jiemian, Vivo has confirmed that it has started building its very own vlogging camera. Although unnamed for now, the Vivo action camera is expected to bring in all the will and wit that Vivo has garnered over the years with its smartphone camera tech. In fact, it was among the first phone makers with an external gimbal-style mechanism with the Vivo X50 Pro in 2017.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any information on the specs except the fact that Vivo China has confirmed the existence to local media outlets. We do know that Vivo wants to deliver a gimbal-style stabilized and compact camera targeted towards photography, videography, vloggers, and creators. A handheld portable action camera appears to be the absolute choice, as this allows creators to get their hands on smoother, steadier, and high-def videos without the clunkiness of smartphone cameras.
Earlier, tipster Digital Chat Station said a major manufacturer (which happens to be Vivo, after all) was building an action-style camera for launch in the first half of 2026. Another set of reports mentioned it could arrive with a phone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC. It seems the phone we are talking about is the Vivo X300 Ultra, which is a part of the X300 series.
The Vivo action camera could arrive as a rival to the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 coming in Q1 2026, and the Insta360 cam is a major competitor as well. There’s quite a possibility that we won’t get Vivo’s portable action cam in the first half and will rather resort to the second half, although let’s take it with a pinch of salt.
