- Qualcomm is working on two flagship chipsets this year i.e. Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Gen 6 Pro, heading for launch in September.
- Both the chipsets are paired with high-end specs and built on TSMC's 2nm process.
- Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 appears to be bringing more power on-board when head-on with Gen 6 Pro which has a LPDDR6 RAM on-board.
The latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 specs leaks are divulging more information about the chipset than ever. Set to launch sometime in September, Qualcomm is working on two flagship chipsets for this year, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, and here’s what we know so far, thanks to inputs from prolific tipsters.
Latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 specs leak takes it closer to the ‘Pro.’
According to Digital Chat Station (DCS), the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 bearing model number SM8950 will be fabbed on TSMC’s latest 2nm process. Although the chipset packs in a new 1x Oryon GPU, 2x prime cores, 3x high-performance cores, and 3x performance cores, DCS didn’t divulge any further information on the same. We are expecting the Oryon core to be beefed up, and the same for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, which is launching with the non-Pro chip as well.
Other specs include an Adreno 845 GPU with the so-called 6 slices, 6MB of system-level cache, 12MB of dedicated graphics cache, and 16MB of L2 cache, to name a few. There’s UFS 5.0 storage and LPDDR5X memory on-board, which keeps the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 throbbing with high-end performance.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 specs leaked ahead of its launch later this year, bringing a top-of-the-line offering. Think about a pro-grade chip powering mid- to high-end smartphones as the chipset launches in a few months.
Note that both chipsets will borrow the aforementioned 2nm manufacturing process from TSMC. The same will be propelled across Apple and MediaTek later this year. Samsung is working on an improved 2nm process for the upcoming Exynos 2700 SoC coming this year.
An even powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro mobile platform
It is interesting to see how the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 matches on par with Gen 6 Pro. It uses the same Oryon core as Pro. There’s a slightly improved Adreno 850 GPU on the Pro with more graphics cache and an improved 4×24 LPDDR6 RAM, which should be able to bring a wider gap between Gen 6 and Gen 6 Pro chipsets. No doubt, Qualcomm is choosing to enlist both the chipsets with ‘Elite’ branding on board.

According to previous reports, we could expect a leap in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 compared to the last generation. On the other hand, the Pro SoC will bring a lot of beef, aka it will be more costly to produce, and thus, it would find its place on ultra-premium phones coming as early as the last quarter of this year.
