- Apple rolls out a much-awaited Apple Watch Sleep Apnea Notifications feature in India.
- It can detect potential signs on Sleep Apnea that can further cause serious health risks.
- Along with that, Apple has rolled out Hearing Test feature on-board AirPods Pro that are tagged as clinical-grade.
Earlier on Thursday, Apple announced Sleep Apnea Notifications as a vital feature arriving on Apple Watch models in India. The Hearing Test feature on AirPods Pro has arrived in India as part of two of the biggest health-related features. Here’s what both of these features bring to the table.
Apple Watch gets Sleep Apnea feature in India
After a long time of undergoing regulatory approval, the Cupertino-based giant Apple has finally received a go-ahead for its Sleep Apnea Notifications feature on Apple Watch models. This includes Apple Watch Ultra 2 and above, Apple Watch SE 3rd-gen, and Apple Watch Series 9 and newer. The feature is indeed to notify users of a potential sleep apnea diagnosis in users above 18 years of age.
Sleep Apnea is a globally renowned disorder that affects humans and their sleep, often leading to a higher risk of Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases if left untreated. The disorder is characterized by disturbances in sleep, and that’s where your Apple Watch can bring a first-level diagnosis using various sensors on-board.
It collects data over 10 nights in a 30-day period to detect patterns, with the algorithm taking care of signs of potential sleep apnea. If detected, it sends the same to the users, which can be further analyzed by specialists to ensure proper remedial steps can be taken.
The feature, now available in India, is based on algorithms trained with over 4,700 participants and more than 11,000 nights of sleep across age groups, ethnic backgrounds, body types, and genders, among others.
If you are an Apple Watch user, check out this feature right away. Note that this isn’t a medical diagnosis, and we advise not to take any measures without consulting a doctor.
AirPods Pro Hearing Test feature now available
In addition to the sleep apnea feature, Apple has rolled out a hearing aid feature on the AirPods Pro. Dubbed as a clinical-grade hearing test, the feature rolls out in India across AirPods Pro (2nd and 3rd gen), capable of hearing assessments.
With its rollout, the feature allows a wide range of people to test their hearing capabilities across frequencies, and upon testing, the feature can be used as an entry into hearing capabilities. Note that we still recommend heading over to an ENT doctor for any remedial steps or medications for further assistance.
