As it seems, iPhone 18 Pro prices might go up by $100. Although this has been signaled a few times by various sources, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has chipped in, adding gravitas to this rumor. A price hike of such would make Apple equal to Samsung and Google, which have raised price tags on their flagship phones by ~$100 already amid surging memory costs.
iPhone 18 Pro price hike is imminent and inevitable
According to earlier reports, Apple decided to absorb the increasing cost of memory and chips for a long time. It spiked the price tags on other Apple products such as MacBook Air and got a $200 hike, while sparing iPhones for another day. A few days ago, we reported on the potential price hike on the iPhone 17 lineup, and it seems the iPhone 18 launch is the appropriate time to introduce a slew of price changes.
Given the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are launching on September 8 (Tuesday), a $100 price hike (or 9% on the Pro) is inevitable. This would make the entry-level iPhone 18 Pro priced at $1,199, as opposed to $1,099 for last year’s iPhone 17 Pro. Although it might seem too steep, the price hike puts Apple in line with what Google is charging for its Pixel 11 Pro XL (~$1,299) and Samsung for its Galaxy S26 Ultra (~$1,299).
Apple has been eating into the surging memory costs for a long time. As per TrendForce, the iPhone 18 Pro attracts an increase in BOM by up to 38%, with the memory being a heavy contributor. With that sort of hike in BOM, it is not viable for Apple to sustain slim profit margins for a long time, and thus, introducing a price hike offers the Cupertino giant some relief in that matter.
Circling back to iPhone 18 Pro series prices, iPhone 18 Pro is expected to be priced at $1,199 to begin with. This is far below the expected baseline of $1,399 for the 256GB iPhone 18 Pro that was reported earlier. Moving further, the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be priced at $1,299 after the price hike.
Since upcoming iPhones are much awaited, the loyal Apple fans would easily adjust to the higher price tags given that’s the new normal. The similar pricing from Google and Samsung ensures Apple isn’t too costly for interested buyers when comparing. Perhaps the latest Apple Upgrade Subscription program can help soften the price tags a bit.
