- Google is preparing a new Fitbit device, expected to hit shelves soon.
- New images offer a closer look at its design.
- The tracker could fill an interesting gap in Google’s wearable lineup.
Google is apparently expanding its wearable lineup with a new fitness tracker, internally known as the Google Fitbit Edge. With available information, the device is expected to bridge the gap between the screen-less Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5 smartwatch.
The information coming from a reputable source has shared product images that provide a very clear look at the device, including design, color options, and possible lineup positioning within Google’s wearable category.
Google Fitbit Edge leak reveals first look, design, and key specs
According to product images shared by Android Headlines, the Google Fitbit Edge retains the compact fitness-band feel, similar to the Fitbit Charge lineup, while bringing a larger and elongated display. From what we have seen in the previous Pixel Watch lineup, the Edge appeared in leaked images and boasts an oval-shaped display.
Notably, the refreshed display design gives it a smartwatch-like appearance, although it’s still pretty easy to tell that it’s a fitness tracker and not a feature-packed smartwatch.
The images then reveal a bigger-size button on both sides and multiple sensors on its back. The rear side also features mechanisms that are supposed to make the wristband relatively straightforward. Moreover, its sensor alignment leans toward hardware focused on fitness rather than making it more of an extensive system like the Pixel Watch 5.
The Fitbit Edge is expected to bring notifications, which were not available in the screen-free Fitbit Air. Also, Google is making a more limited software experience in comparison to the Pixel Watch 5, said the source.
If accurate, the tracker is supposed to support select apps and features. It may include Google Maps, YouTube Music, and Find My Phone.
I think it’s reasonable to have limitations here, since the device is for fitness-focused consumers, so it is obvious if it actually has such software after its release.
Fitness-focused features at a glance
As said earlier, the Fitbit Edge is leaning towards a fitness tracking device. The device is expected to feature GPS for route tracking, an altimeter for elevation measurements, and an automatic activity tracker. With these capabilities, the Fitbit Edge would allow users to keep track of their outdoor work and monitor everyday activity without having the need to carry their phone for regular sessions.
Three color options for Edge
The Fitbit Edge, as per leaked product images, is almost confirmed to launch in three color options, including black, green, and orange. Additional color options and band combinations could arrive later; however, the company has not confirmed such information yet.
Fitbit Edge price
Although Google has not officially revealed any pricing information. But the previous Fitbit Charge models ranged from $129 (~₹12,420) to $179 (~₹17,234), while the Fitbit Air launched at $99 (₹13,999). If Google positions the Edge around the Charge and Air lineup, it is estimated to cost $149 (~₹14,345) to $199 (~₹19,159).
Please note the above price is not official. It is based on early predictions. We would suggest you keep watch. We will bring the latest developments related to the Fitbit Edge for you.
Fitbit Edge launch timeline
The Fitbit Edge is expected to debut later this month, with availability to follow. As usual, the device would then go on sale on Google Store, Amazon, and Flipkart.
Again, the details are unofficial right now. The company is expected to reveal official details in the coming weeks.
