It is being expected that Samsung may reveal the next flagship under the S-Series, the Galaxy S9, in the coming months. Rumours have already started circling and as per some new reports, there may be some significant changes in the design and hardware powering the device. It is now already known that the Samsung Galaxy S9 will look quite similar to the S8, but with some changes here and there. Some of these were obvious as some cases for the device were spotted online.
Some rumours have suggested that the bezels at the top and the bottom will be cut down further and it will eventually have a higher screen-to-body ratio when compared to its predecessor. The camera will now be placed at the centre, and well, now the fingerprint reader will also be placed below the camera module. However, the S9+ will be the only one to have a dual-camera setup at the back, which is kinda Apple-ish attitude from Samsung, and many Samsung fans might hate this!
Samsung Galaxy S9 will be powered by the new Exynos 9 Series 9810, which Samsung announced officially just a couple of days back. The Exynos 9810 will bring twice as much improvement as its predecessor, Exynos 8895, in single core performance, which was used in the Galaxy S8 and 40% greater multi-core performance. The new Exynos 9810 will offer a peak clock speeds of 2.9GHz. Samsung has also said that the processor will be more efficient, however they didn’t reveal any numbers to compare it with its older brother.
The new Exynos 9810 is now capable of recording at 4K UHD and stabilized footage at up to 120fps. 10-bit HEVC and VP9 video formats are now supported as well, that offers 64x-colour color palette compared to 8-bit colour support. A Cat.18 LTE modem with up to 6x carrier aggregation can deliver up to 1.2Gbps downlink and 200Mbps uplink, as compared to 5x carrier aggregation from last year.
Another interesting thing is that the Exynos 9810 will also be using neural networks for accurately recognizing people or objects in photos, which will let the phone search them faster and categorize each. However, it can do a lot more using depth sensing. It will enable the Galaxy S9 scan a user’s face in 3D for hybrid face detection. Samsung also says that hybrid face detection enables realistic face-tracking filters as well as stronger security when unlocking a device with one’s face. The Exynos 9810 has a separate security processing unit to keep personal data safe, such as facial, iris, and fingerprint information.

However, it’s not only the good news that’s coming up. Samsung will surely opt for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, which is the latest and best flagship processor Qualcomm offers as of now. And there will be a Snapdragon variant of the Samsung Galaxy S9 for sure. But the Snapdragon 845 chipset cannot handle 120fps 4K UHD video recording. So, in the US users will be a step behind the rest of the world, where Samsung sells the Exynos variants of its devices.
