After rolling out its 5G network for businesses and developers and select parts of selected cities, the United States’ AT&T is finally ready to launch 5G network for its consumers. The carrier will commence selling Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus 5G at a whopping $1,300 embedded with its 5G network available across five cities that are San Diego, Rochester, Providence, Pittsburgh, and Indianapolis.
According to the roadmap, AT&T has planned to outreach and extend its services to San Francisco, Boston, New York, and others totaling at additional 10 cities offering its nationwide 5G coverage by the first half of 2020.
Note that this won’t be the fastest 5G network but rather a faster 4G-Advanced network where the 5G enabled phones will connect to 850 Mhz spectrum which is a low-band 5G network from AT&T which deliver faster internet using LTE-like spectrum instead of relying on millimeter wave (mmWave) that delivers true 5G-like faster data speeds.
Interestingly enough, AT&T has three separate 5G brands i.e. 5GE which is an LTE-Advanced version with faster data while the second is “5G” which is an actual fifth-gen network but with mmWave and finally, the third is the “5G+” which is the actual mmWave 5G network.
According to The Verge, the current 5G without mmWave will be available with AT&T Unlimited Extra or Unlimited Elite plans available at $75 or $85 per month per line for 5G where users will be able to use data at up to 50GB and 100GB of total data cap similar to any other usual data plans.
AT&T joins the wagon of three other network carrier in the United States with 5G network where Verizon launched the service back in April although in limited capacity followed by T-Mobile that has already launched 5G mmWave in selected cities including a nationwide low-band coverage expected to arrive by next month followed by Sprint that already has several cities and devices under its radar for 5G network.
AT&T will start preorders for Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus 5G on November 25 aka Monday at a $1,300 and users to subscribe to AT&T Unlimited plans to avail 5G at no extra cost. The units are expected to deliver by the first half of December with 5G will be activated as well.
