Kicking off right after the Samsung Galaxy S8 launch, Samsung provided an update about the new and improved Gear VR for the new flagships. A little bit of that, and the introduction of an all new Gear 360 camera might very well have blown Samsung’s market share up already.

Gear VR
As for the actual headset, it remains pretty much the same, with a new color (Orchid Grey) to match the S8’s offering as well. What has changed, is the best new part. The controller, which was unveiled back in February will finally be shipping with the Gear VR headset and is a total game changer. Although manufactured in collaboration with Oculus, it is totally unlike and advertises itself as a comfortable, easy-to-use, one-handed controller, which we found very fitting, considering Google’s new Daydream project is all about minimalism.
The controller has a circular touchpad in the middle, useful for navigation, and dedicated volume, power, and home buttons. While Samsung’s offering might be a tad bit expensive than what Google is putting forward, people who pre-order the Galaxy S8 will be getting theirs free!
Gear 360
This one has been totally overhauled, with a smaller camera ‘bump,’ thanks to the new placement of the battery, in the base. The Gear 360 is a very promising 360-degree camera. It can record up to 4K at 24fps, and live stream 2K no problem. The 15-megapixel camera, backed up by the 1,160 mAh battery should give a pleasant opportunity to many creative people. Samsung also seems to be bringing the support of their new 360 camera to iOS and MacOS.
Among the two, we, have apparently liked the Gear 360 a lot better, since it does seem to be packing in one of the best sensors in such a compact body. What are your thoughts on the same? Do let us know in the comments section down below!
