OnePlus has always maintained its superiority in the smartphone industry with its flagship smartphones. It usually launched two smartphones a year but 2019 was different as there were four devices to launch in the roadmap. OnePlus held its first major launch event barely an hour ago where it launched its next-gen flagship smartphone series i.e. OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. We at TrueTech already unleashed a series of specs (both confirmed and leaks) and more in the last few months but the OnePlus 8 series is officially here.
OnePlus 8 Series: Design & Display
When it comes to design, OnePlus is one of the best hands down. At 180g, OnePlus 8 is basically a few grams lighter than iPhone 11. It is a truly compact flagship phone with a thickness of 8mm. At the front, you have a vivid and colorful display with thin bezels around the edges. Moreover, the edges have shorter and tighter curves that enable it to appear exceptionally slim aiding its excellent grip and handling.
At the back, both OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro have a similar designs with the exception of an additional camera sensor that the latter had gained over the former. Also, the position of the LED flash is a bit different, and the OnePlus 8 Pro sports iP68 water and dust resistance; that’s all.

|Type||Fluid AMOLED FHD+ Display||Fluid AMOLED QHD+ Display|
|Resolution||2400×1080 pixels at 402 PPI||3168×1440 pixels at 513 PPI|
Talking about the Display, OnePlus 8 Pro is the true master with its brilliant 6.78-inch Fluid AMOLED QHD+ display with a 513 pixels per inch (3168×1440). Tested by DisplayMate+, the panel on OnePlus 8 Pro officially broke 13 records. The display is super responsive with buttery smooth transitions thanks to its 120Hz refresh rate adjoining the 240Hz touch sampling rate that makes everything fly at an exorbitant speed.
It can produce a peak brightness of 1300 nits producing 40% less blue light which makes it a true feast to the eyes. Moreover, the display is clad with MEMC and HDR10/10+ where the latter produces over 1.07 billion colors making it as vivid and vibrant. It has a JNCD of less than 0.4 which is what makes the colors almost the same as we see. The company achieved the same thanks to the perfect amalgamation of hardware and software that it calls as OnePlus Smooth Chain.
The OnePlus 8 sports a similar 6.55-inch FHD+ Fluid AMOLED 90Hz display that has been rated as A+ by DisplayMate. It can produce a peak brightness of 1100 nits which is exceptional although a bit low from its Pro variant. Everything else remains the same as its elder sibling including JNCD rating, HDR10 support, etc.
OnePlus 8 Series: Software
OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro will be available with Android 10-based OxygenOS 10. The Chinese smartphone maker has worked really hard resulting in 280 new optimizations to actually take advantage of the higher refresh rate and to make transitions super smooth. OnePlus has added a refreshed dark theme on OnePlus 8 series which is easy on the eyes and consumes less battery.
Apart from that, OnePlus offers various features from Android 10 such as Live Caption that will transcribe any video and audio in real-time. OnePlus has also partnered with Google One to offer 100GB of cloud storage with a 3 months trial as well.
