  • Apple is reportedly working on bring 'Visual Intelligence' on AI wearable devices heading forward.
  • This makes wearable devices spatially and contextually aware for a screen-free experience.
  • We still have a long way to go before Apple rolls out the tech along with supposed Apple Glass, AirPods with cameras, among others.

Recent rumors point to the Cupertino-based giant working on improving its AI tech with something called ‘Visual Intelligence.’ Apparently, this will give rise to a new slew of wearables, from pins and pendants to ‘AirPods that could see‘ to Apple Glasses, as the tech in the works will make these products spatially aware.

Apple is building a new slew of devices with ‘Visual Intelligence’

According to Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, he cites Tim Cook, Apple CEO, as working on creating AI wearables with Visual Intelligence. The tech deals with Apple Intelligence (or AI for Apple) while getting you off the screens and handling queries on wearables that are aware spatially and contextually. For instance, Apple wants to introduce Visual Intelligence that can scan through photos and real-world objects and help users take actions such as finding ingredients in a meal just by looking at it.

Gurman further puts gravitas on how Cook referred to Visual Intelligence as one of the most popular features under Apple Intelligence. With more than 2.5 billion devices, Apple is already sitting on a goldmine of devices that can help it bank on Visual Intelligence.

Apple is currently working on algorithms required for visual recognition, such as screen-free navigation. It recently paired with Google Gemini for AI applications, including Siri, thanks to the obvious advantage that Gemini offers. It is not to be taken lightly that Apple won’t care about overthrowing Google in the AI spectrum, and visual intelligence could be the beginning.

A number of AI devices are in the pipeline at Apple. For instance, Apple Vision Pro could benefit from visual intelligence given its mix of virtual reality and augmented reality. Apart from that, Apple could leverage Apple Glasses to get upgraded with the tech, giving it a Marty McFly-esque interface. Apparently, Apple Glasses with cameras are expected to roll out in late 2026, wherein AI can help bring more features to them.

In any case, Apple is still a long way from AI prowess compared to Pixel’s Google Gemini and Samsung’s Galaxy AI. It remains to be seen if and when visual intelligence becomes a reality on Apple devices. Unfortunately, we don’t have a timeline just yet, so you might want to wait for Apple’s wearable AI tech to mature.
