Apple released the iPhone 13 series earlier this year and is now gearing up to launch the iPhone 14 series same time next year. However, the next iPhone is going to be special as it will have a redesign.
It can be seen from leaked renders that the iPhone 14 will have an iPhone 4-like design with rounded buttons, flat edges, and a flat back with camera rings.
Apart from that, there will be other changes on the iPhone 14 series as well which are likely to be a hole-punch display along with a 48MP main camera.
As far as the hole-punch display is concerned, we know that it has been around for a long time but Apple tends to wait on new technology for a while before bringing it to their own phones.
Now that we know Apple is finally happy with the hole-punch display, it will be there on only the iPhone 14 Pro models and the iPhone 14 models will still not have it.
The hole-punch display on the iPhone 14 Pro models will also be an LTPO OLED panel and it is going to be sourced by both Samsung and LG.
The Elec reports that LG Display has won the order from Apple to supply the iPhone 14 displays. The report adds that LG Display will supply the displays used in “6.68-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max”. At the same time, the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro will have displays supplied by Samsung.
Ming Chi-Kuo has revealed that while he believes the hole-punch displays are reserved for the expensive iPhone 14 Pro models, Apple could bring them to all the models if “yields are good”.
We believe Apple is concerned about the battery life on their smaller iPhone 14 models which is why they are not bringing the same display across the board.
It is also worth noting that there will not be an iPhone 14 Mini for next year and the regular iPhone 14 will be the smallest iPhone in next year’s lineup.
The decision to source displays from both LG and Samsung is also made to reduce reliance on Samsung as well as also negotiate prices.
