India announced 5G services at the Indian Mobile Congress 2022 with Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vi taking the lead as the three major telecom providers. Jio and Airtel have already started rolling out 5G in selected cities, however, you won’t be able to use 5G on your devices just yet. Both Samsung and Apple are slated to release an OTA update to activate 5G services sometime later this year. Here’s more information that you can find helpful.

Samsung and Apple to push OTA update for 5G by the end of this year

According to the latest update, Samsung officially announced that it will be pushing an OTA update on all its 5G smartphones to activate the service sometime in mid-November. On the other hand, Apple will be pushing the OTA update sometime in December thereby activating 5G on iPhone SE (3rd-Gen), iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone 14.

Apple is currently testing out 5G services on its iPhone for its performance and stability after which, it will be launching support for 5G services later this year allowing users to tag along the speedy 5G network earlier than ever. 5G reportedly offers 30 times faster downloads compared to the 4G network and will unlock countless possibilities right from cloud computing to AI to driving autonomous vehicles and so on.

As of now, Airtel’s 5G Plus (basically 5G but with Airtel’s branding on it) is running live across Varanasi, Nagpur, Siliguri, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, and Mumbai. On the other hand, Reliance Jio is running the beta stage for its True 5G (again, it’s what Reliance Jio will be calling the 5G network) across Varanasi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Delhi. Vi, on the other hand, is testing out a 5G network and hasn’t updated the timeline as of now.
