With all the leaks and rumors about the upcoming iPhone 8, we’re getting pumped up for the launch to happen soon. But some of the reports are suggesting that we would be left disappointed as iPhone 8’s launch might have just been delayed significantly. Apart from this, some significant feature omissions will also be made in the new iPhone 8.
The news comes from two fairly reliable sources namely, Mac Otakara and Royal Bank of Canada. Both the reports say in unison that the tenth anniversary iPhone 8 will be delayed by a few months and will only start shipping in October. The volume shipments of the phone are expected to resume from the following months in November and December.
No exact reason has been provided for the delay, but we can suspect it to be the increased number of features that Apple is trying to stuff the phone with. The other two phones launching alongside – iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus – won’t be facing any delays and will start shipping in September itself, as it has always been.
Many reports and iPhone 8 renders and suggested that the upcoming smartphone will sport a bigger power button than the current iPhones do. It was being said that Apple might incorporate the TouchID sensor under it as we had seen in Sony Xperia flagship smartphones. That possibility is also being ruled out along with the under-display fingerprint scanner.
The report by Mac Otakara also mentions that Apple will completely ditch the TouchID sensor in favor of 3D facial recognition tech, or FaceID, as the report mentions, that we had discussed a couple of weeks back. The company will have to ensure that the new tech performs at least as good as TouchID, if not better. Samsung’s similar facial recognition tech failed miserably when subjected to certain specific conditions. We hope Apple doesn’t repeat the mistake.
Apart from these changes, the iPhone 8 is also being said to come in limited color options. If the report turns out to be correct, then the iPhone 8 won’t be coming in a white frame on the front. Apparently, most of the color options of the current iPhones have a white front. We will undoubtedly hear more on this as we get closer to the launch.
