It turns out that not everything we know about the tenth-anniversary edition iPhone is true, at least if this new report is to be believed. The report not only suggests a new name for the phone but also mentions about significant changes to some of the major features, including the fingerprint sensor.
Apple will be launching three phones this year; this is the only fact that seems confirmed as of now. This report also mentions the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus, which will be the direct successor to the 2016 iPhone duo. The third phone is, of course, the iPhone 8 or probably the new name that the report suggests.
We have been referring to the tenth-anniversary iPhone as iPhone 8 but the report mentions the name to be iPhone Plus. We already were ready to get a new name for the iPhone 8 but this sounds nothing like what we expected. The information was provided in a Weibo post that was also shared by the person on Twitter.
Another unexpected information provided was about the fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 8. The report mentions that the sensor will be placed below the lock/power key of the iPhone like we have seen in many of the flagship Xperia smartphones. This could be a possibility as some of the prototypes of the iPhone 8 have revealed a larger power button than what we have seen on the earlier iPhones.
This piece of information is nothing like we have been hearing or have expected from the iPhone 8. Until now we were expecting Apple to embed the fingerprint sensor below the display. Some of the other reports have suggested that the Touch ID will be removed altogether in favour of the rumoured 3D face scanner and iris scanner.
When we are talking about the design of the iPhone 8, the report also mentions that the iPhone 8 will be coming in bright black, black, silver, and a new “07” colour, which is said to look like the first iPhone. This Bond-like colour could have been named after the year the first iPhone was launched.
iPhone 8 is expected to be the first Apple phone to sport wireless charging and this report suggests that the charging dock will be coming with the iPhone 8 itself. So, you won’t be required to shell out more money to get the wireless charging functionality. The internal memory of the iPhone 8 has once again been suggested to be 64GB and 256GB with just two storage variants this time.
Many of the details don’t match with what we have already heard about the iPhone 8. While we would suggest taking this information with a pinch of salt, the provider of the information himself doesn’t seem quite confident about his source.
