- Apple is reportedly working on slimmer profiles for future iPhones, MacBook Pro, and Apple Watch.
- iPhone 17 Slim is already rolling in the rumors mills alongside a design overhaul for Apple Watch X.
- We should see a shift in design as early as next year.
Apple is reportedly changing its focus on devices to making them ‘thinner’ as it moves forward. This was highlighted by Mark Gurman’ PowerOn newsletter according to whom, the purported thinner iPhone 17 lineup will likely see a major design overhaul with MacBook and Apple Watch adding their significant share in reductions of thickness.
Apple reportedly working on thinner iPhone 17, MacBook Pro, and Apple Watch
A few weeks ago, the Cupertino-based giant rolled out iPad Pro, its slimmest ever tablet without putting its performance or battery life in jeopardy. I am talking about the iPad Pro 2024 powered by an M4 chipset that was 5.1mm in thickness. It was ultimately compared to yet another thin device Apple had aka the 2012 iPad nano, emphasizing just how slim the latest tab is.
It was the flag bearer of what we will soon witness in the form of a major overhaul to the designs of upcoming devices. Apple wants to create a lineup of thinnest and lightest products across its entire offerings. You must have heard about the iPhone 17 Slim, a purported fourth/fifth model in the upcoming iPhone 17 series that would be the thinnest of them all. We could see thinner iPhone models across the entire lineup and not just limited to a single high-end model out there.
We have also learned about a major redesign of Apple Watch X — celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Apple Watch that made its debut in 2015 after its unveiling in 2014. It means we could get to see the Apple Watch X arriving either by fall this year or along with the iPhone 17 series next year. These smartwatches will bring thinner design and larger screens culminating in an overhauled design as put forth by Gurman and a reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
A ‘thin’ MacBook Pro is on the way as well. Apple switched to a heavier and thicker design throughout a few models to accommodate various ports including three Thunderbolt 4, an HDMI port, an SD card slot, a MagSafe 3 charging port, and a headphone jack. Soon, we will see a thin MacBook Pro in the market although the dates are a bit iffy.
Unfortunately, Gurman didn’t specify any of the devices in specifics and thus, what we are left with is a hoard of previously leaked or tipped information. Apple is currently gearing up for the iPhone 16 series with the first-ever 2nm Apple A18 Pro chipsets and a host of other features.
