If you have been following the news lately, you would know that Asus released their latest motherboards which are named the Asus ROG Maximus Z690. However, it has been in news recently for all the bad reasons.
Asus’ latest motherboard has been in the news because it has been catching fire. In fact, there have been widespread reports about these incidents happening to users of the Z690. There was no acknowledgment from Asus so far but that has changed now.
Asus has now acknowledged the issue, accepted the underlying causes of this motherboard catching fire, and even issued a recall statement.
In a statement given to Tom’s Hardware, Asus says that they have identified the issue being “a potential reversed memory capacitor issue in the production process from one of the production lines that may cause debug error code 53, no post, or motherboard components damage.”
However, Asus is not the first to understand what the problem is and why the motherboard is catching fire. That’s because a YouTube channel named Actually Hardcore Overclocking had already pointed out the root cause of fire incidents. They revealed that the capacitor was installed backward which could be the main problem.
It is worth noting that this particular incident is taking place only on products manufactured in 2021 with the part number 90MB18E0-MVAAY0 and serial number starting with MA, MB, or MC.
So if you also own an Asus Z690 motherboard, do check the above-mentioned part number and check if your serial number is starting with MA, MB, or MC. If it is, we would advise you to stop using this motherboard right now until Asus sends a replacement.
Talking about the Asus ROG Z690 Maximus Hero motherboard, it was regarded as the best Z690 motherboard until these fire issues started occurring. It is truly unfortunate that Asus has had to recall these motherboards worth $600 which were also some of the best in the market.
