  • Corning introduced Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, its newest and toughest glass ceramic cover material.
  • The Motorola Razr Fold will be the first smartphone to feature Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3.
  • In Corning’s lab tests, the glass survived drops from over two meters onto concrete-like surfaces.

Corning has unveiled Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, its latest and most durable glass ceramic cover material to date. The company confirmed that the new material will make its debut on motorola’s upcoming foldable smartphone, the motorola razr fold.

The device and the new glass technology will be showcased at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona from March 2 to March 5 at Hall 3, booth #3N30.

Built for everyday durability

Corning said Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 will provide long-term strength, not just short-term performance. The company used its expertise in glass and ceramic science to improve resistance to drops and repeated impacts.

“We engineer our materials with longevity in mind, not just initial performance,” said Lori Hamilton, Division Vice President & Business Technology Director, Corning® Gorilla® Glass. “We built Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 to provide consistent, reliable durability that holds up over time.”

Smartphones are often dropped on hard surfaces like concrete and asphalt. Corning said it tests its materials in lab conditions that closely simulate these real-world environments.

Drop test results

According to Corning, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 survived drops of more than two meters onto surfaces designed to replicate concrete. In repeated drop tests, the material withstood at least 20 drops from one meter onto asphalt-like surfaces.

Corning said that a competing aluminosilicate glass typically failed on the first drop under the same repeated test conditions. The company noted that these results are based on controlled laboratory testing.

First use on motorola razr fold

motorola confirmed that the razr fold will be the first smartphone to feature Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3.

“People expect their phones to hold up in everyday use,” said Leo Liu, motorola Vice President of Product Development. “Integrating Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 into the razr fold strengthens the durability of our design.”

Foldable smartphones require strong materials because of their moving parts and flexible displays. The addition of Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 is supposed to improve overall durability.
