Epic Games has made a major move by launching the Epic Games Store on mobile devices. As of today, iPhone users in the European Union and Android users worldwide can download the store.

The mobile launch includes popular titles like Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and the all-new Fall Guys for mobile, with plans to expand the store to include more games and apps in the near future.

Epic Games Store now available on iOS in Europe and Android

The Epic Games Store is now available for iPhones in the European Union, thanks to the Digital Markets Act, which has opened the door for competition on iOS devices. Unfortunately, Apple continues to block access to the store for iOS users outside of Europe. However, Android users can access the store globally.

Instructions for downloading and installing the Epic Games Store on your device can be found on the Epic Games website, with separate guides for iOS and Android users. The store’s launch coincides with the release of Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 5, Season 4: Absolute Doom, which is now available on mobile and other platforms.

Overcoming installation challenges

Installing the Epic Games Store on iOS and Android is much more complicated than it needs to be because of Apple and Google. It may include multiple installation steps and confusing device settings, along with warning screens.

Nonetheless, Epic Games tries to optimize its users’ experience, working hard with regulators and fighting in court for a better experience for consumers that is also competitive and more mobile-friendly.

Expanding to third-party app stores

Epic Games is also partnering with third-party mobile app stores to increase accessibility. Starting today, Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and Fall Guys are available on AltStore PAL for iOS users in the European Union.

The company plans to bring its games to additional stores like Aptoide’s iOS store in the EU and ONE Store on Android, with more to come in the future.

A milestone for mobile gaming

Tim Sweeney, CEO, and Founder of Epic Games, expressed his enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “The tide is turning, and the mobile ecosystem is finally opening up to competition.”

“We are grateful to the European Commission for making it possible to launch the Epic Games Store and offer our games to iOS users in the European Union. Now, European iOS users and all Android users can access our store and games, as they’ve always been able to do on open platforms like PC and Mac.”
