The credit to Samsung’s dominance in the smartphone segment at least in countries like India goes to their low to mid-range smartphone series. The Galaxy J series is a hugely popular here in India but is long due to get an update. Some of the recent leaks have shown how the new J-series will look like and what all features it will carry.

While the Galaxy A series caters the upper mid-segment, the J series is priced below the sweet spot of Rs. 20,000 to attract a lot more customers. Generally, the series gets updated around April or May and gets three devices – Galaxy J3, Galaxy J5, and Galaxy J7 – each with different specs and screen sizes.

The Samsung Galaxy J3 has already been launched a week ago in the US and is priced at $180, being the cheapest one of the trio. The other two are yet to be launched and a recent leak shows us the design that the Galaxy J5 and J7 (2017) will come with.

As seen in the images, the front of the phones is in typical Samsung fashion, but with a lot thinner side bezels. The top and the bottom are exactly like any of the other Galaxy smartphones, except the flagship Galaxy S8 of course. It is the phone’s back that shows a refreshed design.

The back of the phone visibly sports curved sides for better hold and the antenna bands have also been placed on the top and bottom forming a ‘U’ shape. The camera housing is another thing that is new for a Samsung phone. Its oval shape houses both the camera module and the LED flash. For the colours, we can see black, gold, blue, and rose gold options.

Not only the design has changed, but the specifications will also see a bump. First off, both the Galaxy J5 and J7 (2017) will reportedly come with a full metal body, unlike just the metal frame in the previous iterations. Fingerprint scanner, Android N, 13MP rear camera with f/1.7, and 13MP front camera with f/1.9 and flash will come standard on both the phones.

The Galaxy J5 (2017) will sport a 5.2-inch HD display along with a 1.6GHZ octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and 3000 mAh battery. While the bigger Galaxy J7 (2017) will have a 5.5-inch FHD display, same processor as the Galaxy J5, 3GB of RAM, and a larger 3600 mAh battery.

The two phones are expected to be available in June this year and will sport a price of 279 and 339 euros respectively for the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7. The India-specific pricing may vary from the direct conversion of these numbers.Samsung,
