Samsung doesn’t seem to have moved on from the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco and do away with the unsold stocks. The company is planning to ship the recalled phones as refurbished units with a reduced battery size. The hands-on images leaked recently confirm this detail.

Dubbed Samsung Galaxy Note 7R, the device appeared on FCC a while ago carrying three model numbers. As per TechnoBuffalo, around four million Galaxy Note 7 handsets were recalled, of which, three million units will go on sale in South Korea. The rumoured price tag of the refurbished phones would be 700,00 won or $620.

The recent hands-on pictures of the Galaxy Note 7R confirm a few details about the phone, including its battery capacity and the OS version. The refurbished Note 7R will come with a 3200mAh battery, instead of a 3500mAh one on the original Note 7.

Samsung did reveal the reason for the infamous Galaxy Note 7 explosions in January and it was found that the phone’s battery overheated and caught fire. It seems that the Samsung’s research team has found the solution in the form of a smaller battery that could prevent fire.

The other thing that gets confirmed is that the Note 7R would ship with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, while the Note 7 was launched running Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

As far as the specifications are concerned, no changes have been made to the Galaxy Note 7R. The phone will still have a 5.7-inch 2K display and will be powered by Samsung’s in-house Exynos 8890 processor along with 4GB of RAM. The iris scanner will stay, so will the front facing 5MP camera and the 12MP one on the back.
