  • Google Photos has released a new AI-based feature to discover and highlight best or specific moments of your life captured on camera.
  • It uses Gemini AI and NLP to analyze both the queries and the content of the photos to return appropriate results.
  • It has rolled out across selected Android and iOS users in the US and will arrive on a mass level soon.

Google Photos is now getting a new AI-based search feature that does more than search for specific photos. The latest feature dubbed ‘Ask Photos’ used natural language processing (NLP) to answer descriptive and layered queries by the users.

For instance, instead of checking out all the photos of you visiting a city over the years, you can ask Google Photos to find out the best highlights of the city over a period. And voilà, ‘Ask Photos’ will return you specific results by analyzing your queries, understanding what it means and also, analyzing the photos to find its content and showcase.

Ask Photos on Google Photos is available in English language across Android and iOS, although more languages are promised to arrive ‘in the coming weeks’. Note that both Android and iOS platforms are getting the feature, although it might take some time before it arrives since it is usually released in phases.

Find Hidden Gems and Best Moments From Your Gallery Using Ask Photos

According to the folks at GSMArena, some users in the US got early access to this feature via Google Labs. Others can sign up for the waitlist so that the feature can be rolled out.

Google Photos’ Ask Photos feature uses Gemini AI to understand the context of all your photos. Based on your queries which are run through NLP as well, it will return favorable results. Some questions Google showcased were “What did we eat at the hotel in Stanley?”, “Where did I camp last year?”, “What did I eat at the market in Thailand?”, etc.

Note that Google has made it clear that no personal data will be used for advertising. Some queries might go under the radar via human reviewers, however, Google has assumed no results will be reviewed unless there are rare cases where it could be unavoidable.
