We have seen that there have always been a lot of problems with the Google Pixel lineup from the last 4 years. Not just that, Google’s Nexus lineup prior to the Pixel line also had some problems that users complained about showing that Google does have major quality control issues even till now.

Talking about the latest issue with Google Pixel phones, users of the Pixel 4 XL are reporting a very strange incident. The users have complained that their back glass panel is peeling off all of a sudden. Now, we know that Google’s Pixel 4 series has been a mess but these type of issues are extremely rare.

The reports from users on Google Forums and Reddit claim that their back glass is peeling off due to swelling batteries which is understandable since the batteries would expand and pressure the glass to be removed. However, it seems to be an issue that many users are facing and not everyone’s battery should swell all of a sudden. One user claims that Pixel 4 XL has a widely known issue of using “faulty connectors” which is the reason behind battery bloating up.

Google has not yet commented on this issue publicly and they have also not acknowledged this problem as a “recurring” one meaning that they are treating such incidents as a rare occurrence. On the other hand, people have had to “negotiate with Google” to get their phones repaired under warranty due to back glass peeling.

AndroidPolice, who first reported these incidents, says that users are reporting that their phone’s back glass is “coming unglued, typically starting in one corner and worsening from there”. It is known that replacement devices are being sent out for affected users but that doesn’t answer the question of why this is happening in the first place.

Because it is known that typical phones have batteries that last for years so a phone which is less than a year into its lifecycle should not have swollen batteries. We expect Google to issue a statement on this issue or even accept that it might be an issue with the battery and that replacement might be the only option for users who are and will get affected by this.
