  • Pixel 9 Pro Fold is slimmest ever foldable from Google giving Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold6 run for its money.
  • Pixel 9 Pro Fold sports a Tensor G4 SoC, Google Gemini, a beefy battery and water-resistance.

For some reason, Google decided to rebrand its Pixel Fold series to align with its flagship series. Thus, the latest Pixel Fold 9 Pro Fold is called as such to be in-line with the Pixel 9 series.

Surprisingly, the Fold is insane in terms of performance, the new and better design, and yes, it has certainly one of the largest foldable displays out there plus it is as slim as the Honor Magic V2 RSR.

A wild debut indeed, Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is in line to rock the foldable market with an offering that is overtaking the spirit of Galaxy Z Fold6 from Samsung which is currently in its sixth iteration.

We came across tens of ways how Pixel 9 Pro Fold would beat Galaxy Z Fold6 including its ultra-thin build which is something Samsung is struggling with a lot.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold sports one of the largest displays on foldable at 8” with higher resolution and a close 1:1 ratio making it easier for multitasking. Pixel’s next-gen foldable is also slimmer at 10.5mm when folded.

For perspective, the Galaxy Z fold6 is 12.1mm thick while the OnePlus Open slightly undercuts it at 11.7mm. This makes the latest entrant from Google among the top, probably sparing only the Honor’s iteration which is at an unbelievable 9.5mm thickness when folded.

Google was able to grab a few major upgrades for it’s foldable as well which means it has water-resistant too. When it comes to the specs sheet, yes, Pixel 9 Pro Fold is lagging with a Tensor G4 pit against Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on Open and Z Fold6.

However, the actual tests remain pending and thus, indecisive at the moment. Search engine giant did upgrade the foldable to 16GB (12GB on Fold6) which should translate into better app launches and retention as well as quicker response time.

Google promised seven years of OS support alongside security upgrades that should keep the device feeling new till 2031. On the battery front, we have a 4,650mAh battery pack but with a 45W USB-C Charger plus Wireless Charging.

Regarding the optics, foldable phones are notoriously known for ‘not performing well’ and probably Pixel 9 Pro Fold is no exception (again, we will find out more once the device is available for everyday usage).

It features a 48MP primary cam with 10.8MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom. It won’t compete against the Pixel 9 Pro for sure, probably lagging a bit behind. The other two front cameras are capped at 10.5MP should you want to use them for selfies (of course).

There’s a lot of AI Though

Talking about AI, it has a Magic Editor that lets you expand the frame of a photo. There’s a Reimagine feature that lets you convert a photo with prompts. There’s AI in use to enhance videos captured in low light or at night. In fact, there’s Gemini AI everywhere be it AI-generated weather summaries, Pixel Screenshots, or Translator, among others.
