True-Tech has been verbal about the upcoming Hongmeng operating system from Huawei ever since the U.S. imposed a ban on Huawei in May and reportedly squashed it earlier this month. However, the jewel of the breaking news is that the Huawei’s Hongmeng OS that was reportedly going to replace Android OS is instead not meant for smartphones according to a company executive. Huawei’s board member and senior VP Catherine Chen spoke about a few key details about Huawei’s standing now after the softened US Ban and its Hongmeng OS at a roundtable conference in Brussels.

Chen made a statement that the Hongmeng OS is actually not meant for smartphones but instead it is meant for industrial use. She added that the OS was in development for a long time now even before Huawei started looking for an alternative in case of the collapse of Android OS services for the Chinese tech giant. She even added that Huawei intends to keep Android OS as its primary operating system for smartphones in the future.

To shed light on the Hongmeng OS, Chen said how an operating system for smartphones contains millions of lines of codes where the Hongmeng OS has only a few thousand lines of codes which makes it secure and it has low latency and it is intended to be used commercially and not in smartphones.

This confirmation may come as a blow as it has been more than two months since we have been hearing about the upcoming Huawei’s OS after the United States banned the tech giant from using any U.S. based products or services. This included Android OS from Google as the latter withdrew its support a few days after the ban went live along with other companies such as Intel, Qualcomm, etc.

It was reported that Google wants to continue to support Huawei smartphones but while complying to the executive order. However, as the June was about to end, U.S. President Donald Trump relaxed the situation by allowing Huawei to trade with U.S. companies which led to many rumors about if Huawei would resort to Android OS or stick to its soon-to-be-released Hongmeng OS for Huawei & Honor smartphones.

However, this latest update refutes all the claims made by Andrew Williamson, VP of Huawei Technologies’ Affairs and Communications. Furthermore, as NDTV Gadgets puts it, there is a possibility that Huawei is still developing its OS after a Huawei’s CEO Ren Zhengfei revealed that they are looking for alternatives of Play Store and App Stores and are working with developers for the same purpose.

Anyways, Android OS on both Huawei & Honor smartphones is likely to stay for a while now. You can check out True-Tech for more tech-related updates.
