If you browse through short-video platforms like TikTok or Instagram Reels, you must have come across a set of weirdly produced VFX videos showcasing a flip-screen iPhone, claiming that it could be the next iPhone the company might launch. Well, it looks like the concepts are not fake! Apple is actually working on a foldable iPhone. According to Bloomberg’s report, the Cupertino-based tech giant is allegedly working on developing folding screen prototypes to test them internally. But it is worth noting that the company has not finalized the design and the iPhone Flip is not coming anytime soon.

For those unaware, the flip iPhone is one of the most rumored concepts but we are not really sure from what could be internal deliberation till now. From the report, we can understand that Apple has been testing around some foldable screen sizes. Although most of the screen sizes are unspecified, one of the display’s is similar sized as the iPhone 12 Pro Max. But unlike the video or VFX concepts you have seen, the overall device might look simple, more like what we have seen with the Galaxy Z Flip which is a clamshell foldable that can expand to the size of a typical smartphone.

As for the hinge of the iPhone Flip, it could be more or less to what Samsung has done with mostly invisible hinge with the electronics stacked behind the display. The report also adds that the iPhone Flip may not be at all and the testing may never result in a device released on the market. But, even if it is announced and released, it is very unlikely to replace the main iPhone lineup of devices. Again, Apple is handful and is focused on launching its next-generation flagship iPhones and iPads later this year. Apple is not really planning to change a lot with its upcoming iPhone 13 series, given the changes company had brought with this year’s iPhones.

But then again, the other reports suggest us the inclusion of in-display fingerprint sensor. This goes without saying that Face ID is not working given the COVID-19 pandemic and wearing the masks has become a new normal. So, inclusion of fingerprint sensor very obvious on the upcoming iPhones. This could also be the end of the Face ID system which the company is relying since the launch of iPhone X. Just like every year, rumors also suggest us that the iPhone will finally ditch the lightning port in the favour of USB Type-C which is the current standard for most of the devices including company’s own iPads and MacBooks.
