The Chinese brand Huawei is touted as the second top-selling smartphone brand in the world that recently surpassed Apple is the ‘total shipped units’ metrics and landed just behind Samsung in the second position. Huawei is looking forward to refreshing its flagship smartphones i.e P Series and Mate Series for which, it recently unveiled ultra-popular Huawei P20 Pro which rear triple camera system capable of producing DSLR-like photos to the likes of iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S9 among others. After the P Series, Huawei is in the headlines for its upcoming Mate 20 Series of smartphones that it could launch this October (preferably) or November.
XDA Developers was able to find original renders of the Huawei Mate 20 smartphone which they re-rendered to save their source’s identity. According to the previous leaks related to Mate 20, we know that Huawei is going to release the Mate 20 (Pro*) smartphone with currently unannounced HiSilicon Kirin 980 octa-core processor which is touted to be released at IFA, Berlin, in coming weeks.
We don’t know the screen size either as it will take some more time but based upon certain metrics, we could say that it will be near 6.3” AMOLED display with a screen resolution of around 2,244 x 1,080 pixel. What’s exciting though is the fact that Huawei which has been trying to squeeze the size of the notch that was popularized by iPhone X (2017) and which was soon adopted by many other smartphone manufacturers and it could be seen in latest P20 Pro, P20 Lite, and even Honor Play. But for the Mate 20 series, Huawei is opting for a waterdrop or teardrop notch that was introduced by Oppo F9 which is seen in upcoming Vivo X23, OnePlus 6T, and Oppo R17.
Further, the bezels around the sides seem to be tiny but as practiced in Honor Play, the bottom bezel could be comparatively taller. Further, the Mate 20 series will have a triple rear camera setup with LED flash possibly arranged in a 2×2 square as opposed to the vertically placed triple camera system in P20 Pro but again, this is just a render created from an engineering sample which as known, could change by the time Huawei decides to release the series to the public.
The top has a 3.5mm headphone jack, yes, Huawei decided to keep it while Apple bid goodbye to the jack two years ago with iPhone 7 and above. The bottom has a USB Type-C Port, a second speaker (the first one is embossed on top of the teardrop notch which houses front camera. The device is supposed to have front and back glass that could mean that Huawei will introduce a wireless charging feature with the Mate 20 series but it could eventually drop it something like OnePlus did with OnePlus 6 which has a glass back too.
The Mate 20 sports a 6GB RAM, 128GB internal storage but there’s no input on if it is extendable or not. The device will be powered by a huge 4,200 mAh battery which is still larger than P20 Pro’s 4,000 mAh battery. It will run on Android Pie 9.0 with the skin of Huawei’s EMUI 9.0 on top. It is expected to be launched within 2 to 3 months bracket that is either in October when its Mate 10 series was announced last year or in November when its Mate 9 series was announced in 2016.
