Love it or hate it, the notch on the new iPhone X is here to stay. Not only on the iPhone, the notch is finding its way to more Android phones as well. The Essential Phone was the first one to sport a version of that notch and the next one in the line seems to be the Huawei P11. Some reports have surfaced that suggest that the phone will come sporting an iPhone X-like notch.
XDA-Developers claims to have found reference to the new design in the official firmware files from Huawei. An overlay image was found in the files as the evidence that’s referenced in a configuration file that defines the “RoundCornerDisplay.” The image has been recreated and can be seen included below.
The notch certainly looks bigger than that of Essential Phone which has one just for the front camera. As per the report, the word ‘notch’ is explicitly mentioned in another configuration file along with its values. These values would be for adjusting content around the notch, the report adds.
Another piece of information that could be extracted from the firmware files is the display resolution. According to XDA-Developers, the Huawei P11 would sport a 6.01-inch panel with a 2160×1080 resolution but the boot animation, charging images, and a system property bring out a different resolution of 2244×1080. This might have been there to accommodate the notch.
It is still not confirmed that the phone is indeed the Huawei P11, but a device codename ‘EMILY’ could be found among other pieces of information. A bunch of variants with different model numbers were also found to be there which could be for the different markets where the P11 would launch.
What brought them to the conclusion that the device is nothing other than Huawei P11 is the launch timing and the details retrieved from the software. The P11 should go official only towards the end of February 2018 and it could be the one here. Moreover, the processor used on the device is the Kirin 970, which is currently only found in the Huawei’s flagship phones including the recently announced Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, and Honor V10.
The P11 would come running Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0.1 on top. It is a slightly updated version of EMUI 8.0.0 that came running on the Honor V10. A Type-C port with USB 3.1 will also be present on the device as per the report.
