- Apple is expected to bring some design changes to the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Series, finally.
- These changes are likely around shrunken Dynamic Island as Apple could adopt metal metalens technology instead of conventional curved lenses.
- iPhone 17 Series is en-route to launch this October and we might see the design changes after three years of almost nothing.
iPhone designs have largely remained unchanged for a while now. Perhaps, it seems like the iPhone 17 Pro Series might finally bring some design change at last. Apparently, Apple is likely to reduce the size of its Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 Pro models, something it has been trying to pull off for ages now. Here’s what the latest buzz is all about.
iPhone 17 Pro Series May Feature a Smaller Dynamic Island
According to Digital Chat Station (DCS) via Weibo, Apple is likely working on meta-lens tech that would allow it to reduce the size of its Dynamic Island. Unlike traditional curved lenses, metalens are flat and use optical lenses with nanostructure materials made to manipulate light in a way. This contraption ends up consuming less space.
Apple will be considering integrated Face ID Rx and Tx using the aforementioned metal metalens technology. This will help reduce the size of the Dynamic Island and eventually, you get a shrunken island which is a win-win as you get more screen real estate to enjoy.
The feature is likely to make it to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. It is likely to be clubbed with a Pixel-styled camera bar, sloping edges, aluminum and glass back design, aluminum side rails, and finally, slimmer bezels. Perhaps, take it with a pinch of salt as Apple hasn’t confirmed any of the aforementioned upgrades yet (as if it does any?).
Apple is currently facing tough competition from the likes of Samsung, Huawei, and other brands. Even though the Cupertino-based giant sold millions of units of the iPhone 16 series, the lack of design changes has got Apple users thinking. With the iPhone 17 Series coming this fall, having something new in terms of design changes can create an avenue for more interested buyers.
Apple is also working on an iPhone 17 Air likely to rival the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge that has been spotted on the rumor mill countless times.
