- Apple iPhone Fold launch is likely being pushed to 2027 as per the latest update.
- Apparently, this has to do with the engineering challenges and it isn't something related to ongoing supply chain delays
- iPhone Fold was earlier scheduled to launch alongside iPhone 18 Pro models, however, the report puts a discord in terms of launch window between analysts.
For a few days now, we have been silently getting intel on the iPhone Fold hitting engineering hurdles that could potentially put a delay on its launch schedule. Turns out the foldable phone might arrive in 2027, possibly disconnecting from the initial joint launch with the iPhone 18 Pro series.
Apple iPhone Fold launch rescheduled to a later date
According to Nikkei Asia, sources familiar with the matter said that the upcoming iPhone Fold and its development have become more complex than what the Cupertino-based giant earlier believed. Just a few days ago, we heard about the phone undergoing early stages of production testing, a stage before the phone actually enters mass production. However, the recent reports put additional time on the production, as it requires resolving and making necessary adjustments.
Unfortunately, the report doesn’t provide any further information. It does, however, signal that the phone is encountering engineering challenges and has nothing to do with materials and components supply chain issues.
“We are expecting Apple to overcome these issues by May,” say the folks at Mashable. If not, this will cause the iPhone Fold launch to tumble to a later date, and by estimates, we could see the launch happening around the iPhone 18 series launch. For the unversed, Apple decided to undergo a split launch strategy wherein the iPhone 18 Pro & Pro Max and Fold would arrive during fall 2026, while the iPhone 18 and 18 Plus (or Mini or whatever Apple chooses to call them) would arrive in fall 2027.
iPhone Fold launch and the discord that follows
Up until a few days ago, the iPhone Fold was reportedly on the right track to arrive later this year alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models, as mentioned. Precisely, the launch would’ve occurred in September 2026, probably on any Tuesday. Post that, Tim Long, a research analyst, noted that the shipments for the iPhone Fold would only commence in December 2026.
Cut to now; we are hearing buzz around the internet on a later launch window (and we don’t know when). There are rumors that spring 2027 could be apt since it is likely when iPhone 18 models arrive, although we aren’t affirming anything just yet.

Mark Gurman has a different take on the iPhone Fold launch timeline
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to put the iPhone Fold on sale either at the same time as the iPhone 18 Pro or very soon after, even though the ongoing display and materials complexities may disrupt initial supply for several weeks. The release of Nikkei Asia on the delay in the Fold launch fueled a drop in Apple shares by 5.1% earlier on Tuesday; however, it is worth noting that the delay (if it happens) will be because of engineering challenges and not the shortage of components.
The foldable iPhone is intended to reinvent the look and feel of iPhones and would give Apple immense momentum to push forward. For now, what we know so far is that Apple is years behind its competitors in the foldable space, and thus, it remains to be seen how the iPhone Fold unfolds.
