LG Electronics has introduced its latest webOS 6.0 for its upcoming OLED, QNED Mini LED, NanoCell, and UHD smart TVs that are confirmed to be launched this year. The latest OS comes with an upgraded version of its ThinQ AI, which will support Alexa and Google Assistant’s new voice commands. Paired with the company’s new Magic Remote, the latest version of the company’s Smart TV platform offers viewers a more pleasing and intuitive content discovery experience. The remote comprises of hotkeys for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+.
Not only the Magic Remote is feature-rich, but it also comes with NFC support. Meaning it supports an NFC-powered function called Magic Tap that will allow the users to share the content from their NFC-enabled smartphone to the TV, or vice-versa. The remote also features more comfortable controls when using voice recognition using LG’s multi-AI offerings of LG ThinQ, Amazon Alexa, or Google Assistant. The navigation using the remote is easy to use and hold, and the new Magic Remote offers more user-friendly features such as faster connections between the TV and other devices. Park Hyoung-sei, president of LG Home Entertainment, said that webOS 6.0 is the most significant update since the initial version of webOS, which was introduced in 2014. Users familiar with webOS will instantly notice the attractively updated home screen redesigned for increased usability and fulfill the needs of viewers’ altering content consumption habits.
The new home screen affords faster access to the most frequently used programs and streamlines content discovery with recommendations based on the user’s tastes and viewing history. Holding the latest in AI technology, TV voice controls, and Magic Remote, all you need to do to get information is to speak up. Moving on, Magic Explorer, an enhanced version of LG’s Magic Link, delivers informative content related to what’s displaying onscreen so viewers can learn more about the actors, locations, and other items of interest in the movies and shows they are watching. Also, the content dependent feature provides the most comfortable shopping experience for products seeming across select broadcast channels and LG TV services such as Live TV, Gallery, Settings, and TV Guide by making the changes to the color of the cursor whenever Magic Explorer has info to share.
WebOS 6.0 has a new feature dubbed Next Picks, which will analyze users’ preferences to discover more content suited to their liking. It uses the viewing history data to recommend two live programs from the broadcast or set-top box offerings and one video on demand title or app that the user might like. The company’s 2021 TV lineup featuring the webOS 6.0 will be on display during CES 2021, which is just around the corner. Not only that, but LG will also be showcasing the world’s first Eyesafe-certified TV display, which comes with a 65-inch OLED display. LG’s 48-inch bendable cinematic sound OLED display will also be showcased alongside this during the CES this year.
At this time, we are unaware whether LG will roll-out the webOS 6.0 update for the older TVs that are launched in the last few years. A few reports suggest that the latest webOS is only meant for the company’s upcoming 4K and 8K TVs.
